I'm an FJ guy until my Raptor arrives. Tons of winch users among the FJ crowd...probably lots more mudders and rock crawlers than desert runners. 1.5x GVW as a bare minumum. So I wouldn't consider anything less than a 9,000lb winch for the Raptor. 2x would be better. Think about how you're going to be running your Raptor. On as little as a 10% incline (6 degrees) a winch's pulling power is cut in half. Pulling out of sand is a lot easier than mud.

I carry a TeraFlex Trail Recovery Kit plus an AMSteelBlue kinetic recovery rope (like a snatch strap). The kit has a 7' tree strap and a 30' tow strap both rated at 20,000lbs. The KERR is 1" x 30' and rated to 32,000lbs. If you're going to be pulling stuck vehicles, definitely have a snatch strap.

I plan to keep all that gear for my Raptor and I'm eyeing the Superwinch Talon 12.5 SR (12,500lb). Warn would be my 2nd choice.
