Will Ford drop the v8 in the Gen 2

The 2019 F-150 Raptor will receive Ford’s new 7.0L V8 motor, which will be produced at Ford’s Windsor, Ontario engine assembly plant.

Last week, Automotive News broke the story that Ford has plans to announce production of a new engine in Windsor, Ontario. Sources told Reuters that the 7X engine, designed for Ford’s truck line and other special applications, will also feature Direct Injection, and will be mated to Ford/GM’s new 10-speed transmission.

I didn't read the link but I was at Whipple yesterday and they work with Ford a lot as we all know.
he said there is gonna be a V8 option in 2020. he had no reason to lie to me and I dont care 2020 is to far away to worry about. either way I am not paying 80K for a stock truck. ill buy a F250 first and make it look like a raptor with better suspension lol.

i doubt it. i still see a hybrid as the next generation. Theres several patents being filed for hybrid trucks already. F1-E is about to be in full swing as is WRC-E. Ken block is drifting a v6. Even the mustang wont be v8 for much longer.

I'm thinking that the only guys that are positive they are not coming out with the V8 Raptor are the ones that bought the 6 banger. :mwah1:

I'm thinking that the only guys thinking there will be a V8 option coming, is the guys who can't afford the current truck so they're looking for excuses to put off their purchase.

They’ll come out with a V8 when Ram puts the hellcat in the TRX and does it first

If ford was concerned with what dodge is doing, it wouldn’t have taken this long to come out with the new gt500.

This is an emotional topic which is pretty interesting. There are some logical reasons to put a new power plant option in the Raptor. In addition to creating headlines and buzz, it gives Ford a chance with the Raptor to put significant miles on a new engine without giving it to a mainstream F-150 buyer. The miles in the Raptor will be harder miles and can help identify potential issues before being used in other vehicles.

If they don’t put a V8 in 2019, then my guess is they won’t for 2020. Because there is that talk about a hybrid for 2020 in F-150s...and Ram has that e-torque thing for 2019 on their V6 and V8 engines as an option, which is technically a hybrid. I could see Ford dropping something like that in that Raptor for 2020 if hybrid is the direction they want to go.

So it will be interesting. Already have the V8 or bust group, the TTV6 is cool group, and if there is a hybrid then it will have its supporters as well.

I have a 2017, and while it’s my favorite truck, it will be hard for me to ignore a new N/A V8 if the Raptor gets one. Don’t really want to go through the allocation chase for 2019, but would. I just want to know now lol

I'd have to get rid of mine for a V8 option. That being said, I'm worried about the bottom falling out of our value in trade in if that happens.

I wouldn't worry about.

First, the 3.5 EcoBoost is the best selling engine in the F-150 lineup and already beats the available V8. No matter what the V8-or-die crowd claims, there is strong demand for a powerful, fuel efficient engine and many buyers would still choose the V6TT over a new V8. Just like they do on the rest of the F-150 lineup.

Second, the new V8 will either be more expensive than the V6TT, or it will cost the same and be less powerful. If the V8 is less powerful, the V6TT will still be the engine of choice. If the V8 is more expensive, the price differential keeps the V6TT from depreciating.

Good post and I think generally accurate, but I doubt they would drop a new engine in the Raptor without at least some marginal number increases just from a marketing perspective at least.

I'd buy the V8, but I'd probably buy a 2020 Raptor anyway regardless of what's in it. Just don't keep my vehicles for very long. "Oh, I need new brakes and an oil change? Probably better to just get a new one." :biggrin:
