I cut the cats off my 6.2 Raptor and had tried running it with my straight through Flowmaster Outlaw Race Series mufflers. Way too loud. It clapped like crazy just driving normally as well. I put on a Flowmaster Super 50 muffler but now it is too quiet and makes a noise almost as if the exhaust is made out of tin or something. I also put an X pipe on there. What mufflers do y’all recommend for something that isn’t as loud as a NASCAR but something that still has a super aggressive sound? I don’t want it to have that “tinny” sound either. I also have true duals and have thought about going to a Y pipe after talking to a few people who have Raptors. I’ll try posting some videos on here. I want something that is noticeably louder but not too much louder than the first vid I post (stock cats, stock headers, true duals with Outlaw Race mufflers to 5” tips) but not as loud as the second vid which is the same setup as the first but with no cats plus X pipe. Somewhere in between the two but leaning more towards the first video. Any help is appreciated!

You didn't specify what diameter so I assumed 3"
Loud: https://www.dynomax.com/race-series-bullet-round-24405.html
Still loud, but less so: https://www.dynomax.com/mufflers/ul...a-flo-welded-round-centered-centered-613.html

I would run choice 2 with no cats. The muffler internals are essentially the same, the difference is the case size. Larger case is going to be quieter (especially in cab). Either one is going to be very loud at full throttle.

Chambered mufflers with X-pipe seem to produce the rocks in a tin can noise. Run a straight through. In general get away from anything Flowmaster.

The nature of the 6.2l is a little bit of a jackhammer noise at full throttle, but its not going to be as compressed and intense as it is with the chambered outlaws.

The noise thing has a ton of factors: How much pipe is after the headers, where the muffler is in the system, where the outlets are, how many turns and what ° they are. One of the more critical things is where the exhaust exits in relationship to the driver, and what angle it leaves the truck. If you have downturns under the cab its always going to be loud inside since your reverbing off the asphalt right into the truck.

I ran both of those mufflers on my supercharged mustang at one time or another, the larger case was much nicer on the highway and in general conditions, the smaller case was fun for a while but the noise would wear you out on a long drive. Both of them were better than super 10's to live with.

If you really want to get rid of that jackhammer noise mufflers like Kooks ko300 will get rid of most of it, but they kill a lot of character, a lot of higher end import mufflers are this way.

Generally the longer the muffler the smoother the tone is going to be, it will also be quieter.

Interesting. It would only clap when I was driving normal not at WOT. It sounded literally like a jake brake on a semi truck while I was driving. Do you think the larger case would be “**** your neighbors off on a cold start” loud? I’ve thought about just getting an exhaust cutout and having the normal setting for the exhaust something pretty tame and then when I open the flap for it to have something like open headers but with some kind of race muffler.

Park with the exhaust pointed toward your own house or a bush :D

Honestly I am not sure, the cold starts are loud on everything except stock exhaust. I guess it depends on your neighbors... mine don't complain about any of my crap and its all noisy. Once you start getting into cat deletes and headers it gets an order of magnitude louder.

Are you getting complaints? If so need to look at some other options.

That’s true [emoji23] the only thing holding me back from the exhaust cutout is that I’ve heard the electric ones always mess up. I would get a manual one but I’m not sure how I would even get the cable into the cab of the truck for me to use it

I’m running a dirty deeds 20” setup with the 4” dia. muffler (I believe).

I still have cats but the tone of the truck is quite a bit different from stock and the other aftermarket options I have heard at the runs I have been on.

I imagine it is due to a few factors, mostly what @B E N pointed out.

If you youtube dirty deeds headers raptor, there is a white raptor with stainless works headers that sounds good and I believe it is catless for an example.

And I’m not getting complaints as of now as it’s actually pretty quiet with this Super 50 on there. I just wanna have something that’s more on the tame side without having the rattling tin can noise and then with the cutout i can make it as loud as i want

That sounds about what I’m looking for. He has headers though and also has a Y pipe. If I get the exhaust cutout I wouldn’t have an x pipe anymore so that would be pretty good. I have a Flowmaster super 10 sitting in my garage and I’ve thought about putting that on as well but I feel like it would be way too loud
