I finally installed the Rpg drop shackles that were sitting around. It leveled out the truck nice and improved the ride quality. Figured I would post if anyone is on the fence like I was about getting them.
your message reminded me i have a set of their mig shackles sitting on a parts shelf too

I have the exact same leak on mine. In my case, it’s dark on the outside of the bell housing, but if you check behind the inspection plate, there’s fresh red fluid.

When I had the new motor installed a couple of years ago, it seemed like a good time to rebuild the transmission. After 4 return trips to the transmission shop, it still leaks and they never could figure out where it was coming from.

They used an aftermarket front seal from the rebuild kit. On the last trip, they finally replaced it with an OEM seal and it still leaks, so they basically washed their hands of it.

It’s not my DD anymore, so I decided to just live with it until I have the time and desire to remove it myself and figure out what’s going on with it.
We just drove another ten hours and I did the speed limit the entire time. Still leaking but it’s WAY less than before.( the axle housing was coated as well as the underside of the truck and somehow the outside of the rear bumper on trip one) I’m still leaning on the overfill from the shop who filled it. I’m gonna take that little plate off and take a look as well as check the trans level now that I’m home

For what its worth, Its odd it would start this far down the line. But when I was rebuilding transmissions in gm land. I saw a few to many torque converters leak at a pinhole in the weld... it was a ***** to diagnose thay leak sometimes.
That’s really good info. I appreciate it!

Pretty sure they installed a new torque converter when they rebuilt mine, so that may explain why they couldn’t figure out the leak.

I think you’re probably right about the overfill. My leak has always been a slight drip, but never enough to coat the underside of the truck like that.

Decided to run to town in my truck yesterday, but it wouldn't start. Engine turns over, but seems like it isn't getting fuel. Checked fuse 27 and it's good. Truck ran fine last weekend with no hint of any issues. I'm guessing it's the fuel pump, but do they suddenly fail like that? I've never had one go out, so no experience with this type of issue.
