So I did go to a Lowe’s today vs HomeDepot which has long lines outside in order to come in yesterday out of “abundance of caution”. Lowe’s didn’t, I told my wife, “I bet-ya, Lowe’s is owned by a conservative and HD by a liberal.” Lowe’s was open for business and no lines to come in or special quota entry. Anyway, I digress...did pick up a 1/2” pipe foam insulation. It’s split along one side and has a film covering the adhesive. See pic for more details. Pretty straight forward. Let’s see if as others reported, that this will increase cooling. I really didn’t have/had a cooling or temperature problem but if this helps I might be able to/orb only need regular cooling vs Max settings on the hottest of days? And help the crew back seats area to be cooler?

So what size is that insulation for 1/2" or 3/4" pipe ?

Took off for some back road blasting. Found a cool web-site called gravel maps, lets you locate dirt roads by county. You would think that dirt roads were easy to find here in TX, but they aren't!!
It was a cold/wet ****** day, for most people...but perfect for a day of sliding around corners.

thanks for this

I'm still researching the pros/cons of doing this

some cons:

factory didnt do it - so unnecessary (not a strong argument)

fire hazard (strong but will depend on Raptor layout to determine if a hazard)

may cause ac to malfunction because pipe needs some sort of exterior heat? pipe needs to be exposed not insulated
something to do with condensation or dew point

The only problem that can happen is,
the Freon might not expand in the evaporator at the optimum time and can start expanding in the return hose (low side).
Just like adding to much Freon, the same thing happens.

Good points...I thought about similar concerns, however such as a/c systems for homes and commercial units I have noticed that their lines(in these copper)have insulation. I also thought about condensation trapping water. Hopefully since it’s not a completely sealed insulation and not held on tightly to the pipe, there might be a little wiggle room for evaporation and water to be drawn out with the heat from the engine bay. And lastly, I also had concerns about as a fire hazard. My addition is riding on top of the wheel well and away from the engine except near the fire wall that is close to the valve cover. But keep in mind that where Ford insulated the same pipe is near the radiator and timing chain cover front right engine bank. Lastly, this is an inexpensive trial anyway. So if I keep it on, the only other additional protection I was going to add was to wrap it with heat protection as I was going to add anyway to wiring for additional protection from heat of my “future” LT headers. Btw, if you notice on my pics, when I replaced my spark plugs and wires, etc., I already added boot heat shields.

Looking good Rick!

In case anyone was wondering, Rick is one hell of a driver and is the King of Saves.

Thanks Charlie, was a pleasure to give you, @Jakenbake and @Carsten89 a ride.

Just got the video of the jump a few minutes ago. I think you were in the passenger seat on that one. Power Steering fluid was definitely hot from the Turbo track and those higher speed corners.
Enjoy!

I am thinking of covering the insulation with Foil tape to minimize any chance of fire.
FYI...I tested a piece of the insulation I bought with a lighter / open flame. It did not flare or burn. It melted where I actually tried to burn. It must have flame retardants in it bc I couldn’t get it to burn beyond where I kept constant flame on it. And still it would just melt and burn out.

I am still goin to wrap it before I get my headers as additional heat protection.
