I did 22 years in the Army, 12 years Infantry and 10 years as a Medic. I've seen way more penisis than any call girl in the US ever has.
I was a 63b wheel mechanic. When they gave us new infrared laser thermometer’s as “hooah” gifts… the first thing we all did is take the temperature of our own balls,
Right there in the shop office, and see whose balls were the hottest.

I'm looking at a transmission rebuild. (The lab test showed a lot of metal, maybe 20X what should be there), and I've got a local rebuilder (with lots of positive reviews) quoting me $2500 cash for a bench rebuild of the 6r80 & the converter. Says there's not a backlog on the parts and he can knock it out within a week. One part of me says just finish all the other work, and just drive it cautiously for awhile so I can put some miles on it. The other part of me says "well, as long as it's already apart why not do this too, and have it as reliable as possible once I'm done". Opinions?20221027_165550.jpg

Sounds like the TC failed…

If it’s not giving you issues, you could ride it out until it blows, take your chances. I would just hate for it to go at the worst possible time. Kind of depends on your situation. Price seems reasonable with a new TC as well.

It’s a tuff call. Part of me says ride it out, but like was stated you don’t want to be stranded at the worst possible time. But as old as our trucks have gotten it is bound to happen eventually. I know that my truck will do it some day, but I think I will be okay with it when it finally happens. Plan is to tow it and fix it when that day comes. I’m curious as to how many miles are on your transmission?

I really haven't driven it since then. So around 149xxx miles. I'm going to go ahead and pull it now. I'd love to go on local Raptor runs in the Hi Dez, but that just means if it fails it would be a nightmare. And since the value of money is going down, a rebuild in the future is guaranteed to cost even more.

Lots of different places
I agree, sooner is better than at the worst possible time. I would get it done and check those mounts, @PD1744's were toast if I remember right. And replace those trans line quick couplers that could fail with straight hose. Anything else you'd like me to spend your money on? :hmm:
