Got her 3rd oil change at 15k miles on a 2014 and again I took her into the dealer. I really don't like them working on the truck because you can't see them working on it. I usually do the oil on all my cars but for me it comes out cheaper to have the dealer do it at 48bucks. Everywhere I read I see that people pay less to do their own oil change, what am I doing wrong? The 1st oil change I did on my own came out to be almost 90bucks. Reason I just bite my tongue and let them do it

I use something similar to what SDHQ sells. 6qts of Mobile1, 1qt Lucas synthetic, 1 factory oil filter. $58.50 plus tax at Oreillys for me and often find it on sale or use my rewards. Still higher than your stealership if he's using synthetic but not near $90. I've had bad experiences and will continue to do it myself no matter what.

I buy 10 quarts of Mobil 1 5W-20 at Walmart for $26/jug.
Then the Motorcraft filter is <$5

Every other oil change I will only need to buy 1 jug because I'll have enough left over from the previous oil change.

Granted I've only done one oil change on the Raptor, but this has been my method on every other vehicle I've owned. So nothing should be different going forward with this puppy.

The key IMO is just to buy oil by the jug instead of the quart, and just store the extra for next time. A lot cheaper.

You said it! Saves money in the long run and especially if it's on sale.

I get 500 gallons of 15/40 at a time last's about a year and a month, I don't know why but I've always had the dealer change my vehicle's oil I figure they should be checking and rotating tires and I've never had a problem yet. it get's cold in SD that is probably why.

same here not worth the aggravation to save $10-$15, storing and disposing of oil...etc There is a shop down the street that I do business with they do MB and BMW, the owner services all my personal cars. $65 that what it costs me to do the oil change, plus the guy that does it worked for ford for 20 years.

I have done it with the peanut oil after frying a couple turkeys. Just poor it in the ground. For some reason I can tell from the year before where I had dumped it...the grass does not grow very well..lol

Thank you for this. I will shop around at Walmart for these deals. I really do like changing my own oil just to get under the truck and potentially finding other things that might be going bad or are but with that said the winter is another story. I'll bite my tongue again and again lol I just hate when they leave spills all over the skid plate grrr my OCD kicks in
