You guys know the MAF sensor is just a sensor right? I'm not sure I understand the logic that it restricts how much air can pass through it when all it does is tell the computer the flow rate of the air.

Yes but, it can only flow *** amount of air unless you pressurize it.. its not a restriction

So I just took three hours to install my Volant kit, If it came with directions that were close to being helpful it might have been a two hour job. It fits OK not great. has a nasty resonance when under part throttle in between shifts. I have not purchased the ram air scoop yet, hopefully that will take care of the resonance. Love the looks and happy it has the Donaldson filter.
I will check my mileage tomorrow.

Will be interested in hearing how the scoop works for you too.

Drove it today for 90 freeway miles, mileage is up 1mpg and I think it runs better?. Biggest problem is the nasty resonance which rattles inside door panels. Halfway through my trip I capped the 3" opening to see if it would quiet it down. Didn't really accomplish anything to quiet it down. So I am going to try the factory intake tube or I may wrap this Volant tube and see if that helps

Its solid. I actually found the resonance and noise of the Volant to be too loud so I'm running the Volant box and filter with the stock airbox silencer.

This is what I ended up with, If you actually use your truck for anything other that a city street queen (boy toy racer) it's too LOUD. I couldn't even imagine towing anything with the Volant set up my ears would be bleeding in a short distance, I imagine I will not get the full benefit of the few extra HP but I will enjoy the Donaldson filter and the extra protection it gives.
You do have a little deeper growl with the stock tube, Next I will try the snorkel and check to see if there is any mileage increase with that set up

All I have to say is lol. Your making it sound MUCH worse than it is. The city street queen comment really made me laugh.

Strange, all I get is a very mild resonance at the very beginning of acceleration from low rpm. It is more like a little buzz that I can feel in the gas paddle.

The MAF sensor does not flow anything, it is a sensor; it reacts to the flow present and the computer makes an interpretation of its output.

The maf only tells the PCM what the intake aircharge temp(IAT) is thats it if you want to get technical. Like I said no matter what you can only flow *** amount of air through a 90mm hole unless you pressurize it

Get a clue! A sensor is a sensor! It does not know the diameter of the tube it is places in to. You can place it in to any air stream and it will react to it.
It takes the computer to make an interpretation of the sensors output.
In this particular case the computer compares the information of the air in to the quality of the gases out and adjusts the amount of fuel needed to get the result it has been told to achieve (Yes I know there is more information that the computer uses)
