Yes same as a network plug, just a 8 wire jack really. I dont have it secured very well, due to its location. It is just pressure mounted and hold pretty well, other than HEAVY off roading. then it kinda slipps out, but never disconnects. When I have some time, I will relocate the mount a bit lower and make sure the console cover can be removed without the RJ-45 coming out.

I've been exploring some possibilities with how I want to set this up when I get home and I think I've narrowed it down. I'm going to try something that may or may not work. I guess we'll see. At first I was just going to order an external speaker but then I'd have to find a good spot for mounting it and that's money spent on something that won't be used very often. I'd like to keep things as clean as possible. I like the use of the center speaker as the speaker for the VHF radio but I don't want to completely lose the center speaker for all the times I won't be using the VHF radio. Solution: 6 prong DPDT on/off/on switch. One ON will be the factory radio input and the other will be from the VHF radio and the standard input will actually be the output to the center speaker. It's not perfect but it should theoretically work.

Can you please explain further?

On - Factory radio wires in
On - Aux external vhf speaker wires

?? Off - Are these the wires that would connect to the center speaker?

I'm looking to do the same thing.

I'm assuming this is what you're referring to...

I also have a question about the power supply - I know you can run directly to the battery and that's probably recommended.

However, I noticed in the book that there is an external power supply plug for cigarette lighter plug.

Can this be hardwired into the rear 12v supply or be used with the 110 power supply in some way?

I'm using the TYT TH-9000

Yes that is exactly my intention. Normally that switch would have power coming to the center prongs. Turn it to an on and the power is transferred to those wires. All it's doing is completing the circuit so reversing the flow isn't a problem. I actually ended up buying a DPDT on/on switch since one or the other will always be on I didn't see a need for having an off option.

I went with this one:

Mainly because I need another switch that is on/off/on but momentary and these were all I could find that offered both and matched.
