Upgraded IWE

If a full time hub was available for the Raptor would you upgrade?

Looks good except for not being able to use stock wheels. Why the new inner axle shafts?

That is another version to add manual locking hubs and get rid of the IWE all together.

Right now RCV us working on a upgraded locking ring/collar. This would fully lock the hubs to the axles.

I am working on version 2 which would eliminate the IWE and current hub setup. With a locking manual hub and new axles to eliminate the axle/hub joint. This would also move the outer CV joint out farther into the hub which would lessen the CV joint angles slightly. And help with the current near binding issues with perch mods.

Hopefully RCV IWE upgrade will be available VERY soon. The version 2 is still work in progress with no time frame yet.. Sorting out all the odds and ends ..

So with the manual locking hubs we would pretty much have to treat the truck as an old school 4wd where you have to stop, put the hubs in, and then go 4 wheeling?

Conceptually yes.. As it stands now with ford current system you have to stop.. Turn the knob on the dash wait for the hubs to lock (hopefully).. Then go 4 wheeling with no guarantee the IWE system will hold together.

Just a (layman's) thought- it seems that the truck is generating too much power for the OEM combination of 6.2l V8, Torsen and IWE assembly. If you strengthen the IWEs, where will the stress move to? I guess that, with the pre-Torsen setup, there was the same power/torque and not the same chronic problem with the IWEs. Does this imply that the Torsen remains the problem and the next part for upgrading by RCV or others? I have read the discussions on the Wavetrac differential. I undestand that the 2014 Raptor has an upgraded differential. Is there any information on what was changed, and why?

I STRONGLY believe the torsen is exploiting/contributing to the existing weakness in the IWE system. It is finding the weakest link in the system. That is why I am going to test it on my personal Raptor and beat on it. If the issue still exists or causes issues with the torsen, I full intend to pull the torsen and test again. I will not okay production until I am satisfied with the solution. Since others voiced concern about a fully locked hub affecting fuel mileage I am designing a bolt on old locking hub system..

Any new info or progress on a upgraded iwe?

No there will not be an upgrade. The part Apperantly has a small failure rate and not worth for companies to make an aftermarket.

I fixed mine using a DIY mod, but I'm not sharing any info. Lots of money and lots of headaches during a one year time to rebuild my front end. You"ll just have to go to the drawing boards and start from scratch
