Turns out the system is fine. You have to go thru the diff warming drive cycle; don’t turn the truck off, jack up the front and check. Both of mine were fine. Trying to pay closer attention to if I only hear it in the first mile when it’s still cold, or if it’s all the time and there’s something else wrong. Still doesn’t explain pulling in 4wd on dirt.

@FordTechOne or @Old-Raptor-guy for the _actual_ explanation, but... IIRC there is a warm up cycle in which the hubs are locked for either a mile or (another condition, which I’ve forgotten ) - I think temperature, and then they will unlock to allow the IWEs to fall to 2wd. Honestly, I rarely used 2wd because I can be... a bit heavy on the throttle.

That is because the Gen 2 cannot lock the rear differential in 2wd and the reason the Gen 1 does not have as many problems with the IWEs.

Fixed it for ya.
1. The locking differential has nothing to do with the IWE system
2. The IWE system is the same design between both generations.

You have zero “facts”, you’re a delusional G1 fanboy as always.
