Initially overfill was an idea, but the assy line nowadays is pretty precise and automated on qty due to bean counters determining x amt variance = x million $ over a production cycle. That, and in ~5k miles, this was the first occurrence that i've noticed. Figured it would have shown its face during one of the abused days prior.

Right now i'm chalking it a new equip bug/fluke/air pocket? etc situation. It will be going in to dealer next week, will have them confirm fluid levels and maybe drop pan.
Even if shavings are found in the pan, not eager to let them tear into it or try to get a new trans (probably on backorder). I've read of people with trucks at dealers for weeks diagnosing similar scenarios. If more info comes to light, they can tear into it but it runs fine currently and under warranty if it does grenade later...

Another day in the shop. Called late today and said they are still waiting to hear from ford on what to do. Not real pissed yet. My family vacation is next weekend. May be a little upset if it's not ready or breaks down on me. Oh well. Kinda expected some issues with a first year model.

update on my issue: the service dept has communicated ok so far and told me they would update me today. I also called my sales man and briefed him on what all was going on. I was very clear that I was not upset or complaining. I have had a good relationship with him and the dealership so far. At about 5pm I still had not hear anything. knowing that they close at 6 I began calling my advisors number direct. nothing. then other advisors would answer and say they would have him call. again I am being very nice. at around 545 I went to the dealership and called again...no answer. I rounded the corner and there was my service advisor at his stand along with the service manager and several other advisors. no one had a customer or phone call. it appeared they we cutting it up before the weekend. they still don't have an answer and advised they were ordering a another trans pan. I was still nice about everything but it was a very uncomfortable setting.
Its kinda disappointing so far. not sure what steps I will take next.

got two phones calls today apologizing for what happened friday. was told a new pan was ordered and put on a high priority list. said it was backordered. no idea when it will be in. going on a family trip this weekend (2000 miles) may be taking the loaner.

Update on my issue. dealership offered to let me take a new truck on vacation. service rep called two days before my trip and said a Ford engineer contacted them and made sure everything was correct. They replaced the gasket and pan. said the fill level was with high or low and the old pan was leaking (which could have caused air in the system). decided to chance it and drive my own rig. 2200 miles through the mountains (Colorado). some off road...trans worked great. never got over 200 degrees the entire time. also got an average go 17 mpg. thanks running 80+ and climbing hills. truck was flawless.

Old thread, but when you found that leak where was the drippage accumulating underneath the truck?

For anyone finding ATF leaks, and having difficulty finding the source, it may be coming from the overflow.

After a several days of good abuse out in octillo/mojave in higher weather temps, I had zero issues. Following day on highway in cruising traffic up hill, trans sputtered a few times, began sprinkling atf onto truck behind me and look down to see temp rose to 248*. No codes or faults were triggered at the time. Stopped for 30-60mins to find issue, and eventually determined source from overflow/vent. Decided to limp truck to next destination, but issue cleared itself and had no trans temp issues the remainder of the trip. Had 2 other gen2's in group with forscan (digital temp #), and all were consistent throughout the next few days. Hope to learn more about this going forward. First real hard offroad trip in the new truck, and must say the trans performed excellent.

I did also learn its quite difficult to source the new ULV ATF

Since I was at highway speed, it kinda sprayed everywhere. Remove the black skid beneath to get a better view and confirm its not pissing from pan or any other seals. We found no culprits there, and eventually traced it to the overflow which is easier to see from engine bay, near firewall in trans tunnel above the bell housing. That's my best recollection of it all. Guess it really didnt effect the fluid level to require more, so maybe it was semi overfilled?

That all said, if you plan to go on runs pickup a couple quarts of ULV now, as it was mighty difficult to source some when we needed it.
