Trading 2017 for a 2020 Raptor

I just traded a 19 Ram 3500 Cummins in on a 2020 raptor and while I did get a great deal on the raptor I more than lost that on trade in value right now due to the virus. I didn’t like my other truck though and realized I don’t hardly even tow and if I do it’s 5,500 pounds.

You will get a great deal right now on a new one but you will take a huge hit on yours. I love my 2020 so far but since yours is so similar I say keep yours and grab one of the first next gen raptors which will be a worthwhile upgrade most likely.

If your worried about the warranty then get a ford esp, I just got mine 100k miles and 8 years from purchase date for 1,900.

Buy the extended Ford Warranty for another 2-3 years and see what the Gen 3 is like.

I have a 2017 and I can’t even imagine wanting to trade up. Mine has been flawless and the 2020’s are still almost identical.

Now when the Gen3 comes out in 2022 or 2023, that may be a different story.
Starting with the 2019's, they got the live valve shocks, better than the previous versions. I drove an used (very low miles) and a new 19, the ride was noticeably better on the 19 so I bought it new.

I was mad my wife’s 2020 was higher than my 2017 that’s what got me started.

Aren't they essentially the same car?

I can say the upgrades are modest, someone else can claim they're significant.

Endless round-robin debate methinks.

It all comes down to disposable income.
I find that, for some, the larger the disposable income, the larger the model-year upgrades tend to look.

Other popular events that gild immaterial model-year upgrades:
mid-life crisis
recent divorce
the sensation of feeling old
won the lottery / inheritance

So to give you my opinion, is the $20,000 (post #10) you'll have to pay worth it to you?

If yes, buy.
If not, get your paint detailed and waxed and maybe one or two of those modifications you've had your eye on.

Just sold MG 17 in December with 48k miles for 52k. Ordered a 20 at invoice the exact same build except White. No regrets here. The 0% came out the week after I financed mine and I was annoyed until I found that the 0% wouldn’t apply. You also don’t get 0% at invoice . If you find one on a lot I believe many dealers out East are doing better than invoice as well.

I generally trade on even year models. Yes I know it makes no sense just a cycle (OCD) for me. Generally every couple of years keeps you in warranty and gives you a good return on trade. Not always the case, but it's worked for me.

I'm not driven by the having the Newest, I'm more focused on trade difference, market timing and cost to own.

Not everyone's objectives and financial position is the same. What might work for me won't work for others.

This forum provides a good basis to help folks make a good choice.

If there are good deals to be had on new trucks, Just think of how ****** your trade in value is going to be. A warranty isn't worth the loss of trading in and paying for a new truck that is essentially the same.

Listen to this man. If you can buy with cash and hold on to your old one until the prices rebound then probably fine. Ask me how I know. lol. Still stupid to take out a loan on a depreciating asset but that's a whole different ball game.
