Trade my problem plagued 2018 for a 2020?

I understand where you are coming from, but I had a 2017 street queen that was babied and riddled with all kinds of issues, so I traded it in on a 2019 (I would have felt bad selling it privately.). I couldn't be happier with my decision!!!!!!! The 2019 drives and runs great!!!!!! Ford has obviously fixed some issues and it is possible that he could get another lemon, but similar to me, he could end up with a much better truck.
I also understand where u r coming from. And seriously congrats on your new vehicle. But in my case, i love raptor but even thinking of buying it specially after reading all the problems sends a big shiver through my spine. I mean i never buy used vehicles just for the sake of satisfaction and confidence while driving through remote locations, which is 80% of my driving. I hve owned 3 land cruisers and a lexus in past 20 years, not a single problem. Oil, tyres, break pads, upto 7 years, thats it. Then i sell em.
The whole point of buying a new vehicle from factory is i dont need to worry about anything for 5 years minimum. Every time i come here, click gen 2 general discussion and engine discussion , all i see is problems. A new vehicle CAN NOT have that much problems. Period. ... 4 years now, still waiting to buy the raptor that i would love by heart, not because i bought it and now i have to love it just to sleep better at night. in 2017, i bought LX570, 160,000 ish miles, changed tyres twice, break pads once and oil changes. Even the plugs are original. Thats reliability in my books. And i have borrowed/ rented gen2's couple of times over the years, for a week. And man throughout my drive i have my but clenched and so scared to push down on gas thinking it might break. And eventually it happened. Luckily we were a group of three cars. Limped it 60 miles, and then got it towed. That was 2017. Next day i bought LX570.

And here, my crime is to want a new vehicle from factory to be reliable, problem free. Thats it. I dont even worry about dings and dents from factory. As long as its running A to B consistently. Which gen 2 raps are not. more than 100 people took it back to dealership the first week for 100s of problems. I can only expect some of the little problems from the first model year. for gen 2 its the 4th!

Your Lexus LX570 is an overpriced, underpowered, overrated, steel bodied heavy ass SUV w/ a design dating back to '06-07, which was really only a facelift to a previous design dating back to the mid 90's for Christ's sake!!! I HOPE THEY FIGURED OUT HOW TO MAKE IT TROUBLE FREE!!! They haven't innovated a damn thing & are backing their "reliability" on aging platforms they're too scared to re-engineer for fear of losing that perceived "reliability" rep. I'm not going to argue the quality is there & they make stuff that lasts, but damn they have trouble keeping up w/ the Jones's, "what have you done for me lately" in the truck/suv dept. Toyota? NOTHING.

The thing to consider when visiting car forums, particularly ones dedicated to high performance, expensive, niche vehicles w/ cult followings like the Raptor. You get alot of gearheads who go nuts on them w/ mods and/or use basically asking for something to break only to replace/upgrade/fix & keep going, rich dudes who are used to driving Mercedes or BMW & decide they want a truck & need "the best" truck & nitpick every little thing, & vocal enthusiasts in general - so when you got a recipe like that, the "problems" become that much more amplified b/c there's just a lot more activity & vocal owners.

One of the "scariest" or most blown outta proportion issues w/ these trucks is the cam phasers - as far as I can tell while it may or may not be "common" (what is common - 5% of all trucks??) it isn't something that's going to leave you stranded or otherwise prevent you from enjoying the truck other than a rattle @ first startup - guys are driving their trucks for 1-2 months w/ the issue waiting on parts and/or diagnosis or service appt.

Ford isn't satisfied staying complacent in a super competitive segment - they're constantly upping the ante & moving the tech/power/design/efficiency/ability further ahead. With that constant R&D, redsigning/tweaking comes quirks & issues. GM & Dodge same way. Take a look @ the interior of a loaded RAM & then your LX570 you tell me which one is "luxury".....

Because it was the worst built vehicle I have ever owned in my lifetime. When I bought it I was going on about 4 hours of sleep, I looked over the paint and even checked panels with a meter but I was not thorough like I usually am.

The front driver fender had a mold defect, every door jam had paint runs, in bright light you could see primer in the jams, the seems of the A pillars were all wavy, one headlight started to delaminate (peel), transmission acted super wonky for the first 30 minutes of driving and my driver seat cushion leather kept coming off the frame. Made three trips to the dealer in the first two weeks of owning it.
Then I started looking on Manheim at the insane number of Raptors for sale on Manheim and still sitting on dealers lots and figured if I didnt dump it now the hit in another year or two would be insane. If the truck wasnt such a piece of junk Id have accepted the longterm financial hit, but I know Id probably have mechanical issues at some point based on the transmission behavior.
I traded it in on a 2020 4runner TRD Pro, I got 4700 off the MSRP on the 4runner. Very few dealers (none in my area) will come off MSRP on them so in my mind it was a was wash.
Raptors are bad ass, but the quality is garbage.. maybe Im really unlucky but the more I read about them the more I think made the right choice.

Your gona love the Toyota TRD Pro. I have a 2019. Very basic technology wise but very dependable. 19k miles and no issues. Funny thing is...... trading it in for 2019 Raptor just to try something different. Only plan on keeping for the 3yrs under warranty. If works out then might keep and then purchased extended at that time.

I get it. I grew up with and love Toyota’s. They are usually bullet proof. My sister drives a 4Runner with over 200k on it.

but didnt you notice a huge difference going from 450hp/10 speed to a 270hp/5 speed?

That 5 speed is dependable but it definitely needs to be upgraded. I typically drive in sport mode just for the faster switching.

My 2 cents: Get an ESP, stick with your '18 for 3 more years, 1 year after it"s paid off. Then weight your options on a '22. I just traded my '15 Lariat (100,000 mi, 3.5 Eco) for a '19 Raptor, I still got 40% of what I paid on my trade. I purchased the 5 year 120,000 mi ESP at time of vehicle purchase.

Placed the order for a 2020 today. Hopefully this upcoming truck isn't plagued with awful reliability issues like my 2018, or this will be the last Ford I own for a long, long time.

Just did the same. 2018 is still in the shop @ Planet Ford w/ left turbo bad, waiting on cam from Ford. Picking up my 2020 tonight.
