That’s a good question seriously never thought about why the 3.5 was not offered in the sd? Why is that ?

Seems like ford keeps increasing displacement on superdutys ( 6.2 / 7.3) instead of going to eco platforms? There has to be a reason?

The answer is simple. Reliability, durability, and better real world fuel economy when under load.

Ford will never put an Ecoboost in the SD. It just wouldn't last.

Hate to stir the pot but a 700hp gen 1 will walk the dog on a mpt tunes gen 2 believe me! I got roasted in my gen 2 by a whipple gen 1 in multiple races 0/60, 40 roll , 60 roll.
Embarrassed me so bad I had to get another gen 1

That's funny. Cool that you ran him, though!

Well duh.... I would hope it would with an $8K-$10K performance mod vs. a $750 performance mod..

No offense the 3.5 is impressive and will dust a n/a 6.2 but once boost is applied to a 6.2 it’s a completely different animal

In all seriousness I have heard that the full race Gen 2 big turbo kit does put down some good numbers. At equivalent power levels (like stock for stock) the Gen 2 will of course be faster due to the weight difference and the 10 speed. I personally wouldn't trust the bottom end in a Gen 2, though. Only a matter of time before it lets go. Plus, given that the parts alone are $14-15k for the full kit, you would be well over half way to a Gen 3 Coyote / Whipple swap and a reliable 700 whp Gen 2 Raptor.

I follow the logic here. But why is it a bad application in the Raptor? Nobody uses a Raptor under that continuous mechanical strain. The ‘weird torque spike’ is exactly what makes it right for the application. Like a 2-stroke dirt bike.

The point is the 6.2 can handle some serious hp reliably if you have the means to boost it! I will say his truck had over 140k miles and he said it was boosted since 5k miles
