I’d say no way that’s totaled. On a $70K truck the 80% value threshold is very high, and enough for the insurance company to replace the frame from what I’ve seen. If it were a $15K Kia Soul it would be totaled.
Only thing holding a total back is the cost of salvage. Round numbers here mind you....
If the cost of repair is greater than 80% of actual cash value it may automatically total. Most states have some sort of actual cash value % threshold.
80% of ACV +- $70,000= $56,000 threshold give or take of repair vs. replace
These trucks carry a very high salvage value, also, so if repairs are higher than ACV-salvage it's totaled.
ACV (guess)=$70,000
Salvage (guess)= $20,000
80% threshold=$56,000
Rental @ $35/day for 21 days=$735 (guess)
ACV-salvage-Rental coverage ($735)=$49,265 in repairs before a total
or
80% of ACV= 56,000 means auto total.
All of these numbers are guesses but the formula is right, and, I slept at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
