Your truck, your money! I wouldn’t do it, but it seems to me your emotional ties is clouding your thinking and making your decision for you. That’s a ton of damage, and you’ll never be happy if you do a “budget” (half a$$ed) repair. For me, if I was a person interested in a salvage title vehicle, which I’m not, I would at least expect it to look good, which it won’t with a budget repair job.

Those A-pillar dings are not going to come out easy. 94K and years later, I would take the full buyout amount and get something new if you can or get a new to you used vehicle and move on. Just my 2 cents but I wouldn't want to have to deal with the repair shop getting that back to where you want it.

Thank you all for your insight. It truly helped me make a decision. I decided to "retain" the truck for the 17k. Because it's only body damage and the truck has no serious damage, I'll only need to get the inspection done and then receive the "rebuilt / branded" title. I don't even need to repair it for the inspection. They treat comprehensive insurance claims differently than collision claims. What I've got is the equivalent of hail damage basically.

I'll fix it regardless. Hopefully the 2 doors can be fixed and it'll just need a new bedside and a windshield for it to look really presentable again.

Anyone interested in a good project vehicle?? Give me a shout.

Worst case, you can probably flip the truck for more than 17k if you decide to. Good call buying it out for such a cheap price.
