I've got a 2 month old '14 w/4500 miles (300ish miles off road), I've only used 4H a couple times off road in sand, and its all ready popped a couple times on me. Not consistently where I can replicate it, but the IWE has already started being a piece of crap. No problems with torsen, really works great when the IWE's hold.

Thats unfortunate that you have already experienced issues, hopefully no more will arise for ya.

I too have a 14, and Im wondering just how widespread this issue is. As of this posting there have been around 18500 plus viewings on this topic with around 265 postings. From going through the thread it seams as most of the postings and problems have been experienced by around 15 to 20 members.

Correct me if I wrong, but with all the TRR runs, snowball and Im assuming quite a few other ppl run 4x4 during hard use, wouldn't many many more people experience this if the system is so weak? Ford doesn't even have a tsb on it correct? I have yet to even engage the 4x4 on mine, and won't be able to even drive it till I return home from overseas. Guess Im just hoping this isn't a extremely widespread issue. I can't imagine the frustration that you guys must be going through to take a brand new truck bad to the dealer with less than 5k miles on it!! Or even 75K?? This is supposed to be best off road truck on the planet….Ridiculous….

Hopefully some owners can chime in who haven't had any issues, and report how hard they run 4WD. You all know the saying that you usually only hear the bad on the internet.

I can elaborate a lil more too.

When I put it into 4H I'm always stopped, I wait for everything to engage, then I slowly take off to make sure everything set into place.

I do not get the machine gun fire slipping that most have when the IWE slips. So far I have only gotten a single POP at a time when the truck is off kilter, or flexing a bit through some terrain, and continues to pull. Then a lil while later it will POP again, sometimes from the same side, sometimes not.

If this is the most that I have to deal with great. But this was only in very low speed stuff. I have not gotten out in the loose sand, in a big enough area, to see how it does at speed.

Im inclined to think that a pop or two under articulation is normal. I had a 08 f150 4x4 that had true track in the back and open front. The back would pop every once and awhile under articulation as well. I know it not a torsen, but i can see a little noise every once in awhile…..Trying to stay positive haha!

Hey everyone,

As a reminder, I'm here to do what I can to help. If you've already had your truck checked out by a dealer and need my assistance, PM me your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, mileage, and servicing dealership. I'll start looking into ways to assist.

No problems at all after a year. Still low mileage but enough use to say I've had not one problem yet. As with all my 4-wheel drive vehicles over the decades, I'm always cautious with putting them into and taking them out of wheel drive. My truck is also bone stock too including bottom perch.

Ya I scared the crap out of a guy coming in to a parking spot. I was on the interstate with ice conditions and didn't think about shutting it off was still slippery in spots. But it will do that on any locked in 4X4 if the wheel dose not slide. If you don't need 4x4 shut it off. When you hear that pop you don't need it try and realize the terrain your on when it happens to learn when it is not needed. I'm guessing it the same as what mine dose.

Hey Crystal,

I gave you all my info. I appreciate what you are trying to do, but my dealer told me after a month of trying to fix this COMMON problem FORD said this noise is normal. SMH. I picked my truck back up Thursday. I'm just fed up with this non sense.

My 2012 was plagued with front end problems, numerous IWE's, 1 completely rebuilt front differential and housing (by the dealer) followed immediately by ford sending them a complete assembled front differential assembly. Part number wasn't even listed, it appeared on my invoice as a rear diff assembly. I've been hesitant to even try the 4wd on my 2014, I don't want to be punished by being without my truck for 60 days like my old one.
