No doubt. You are L-U-C-K-Y. You found one of the few used dealers with integrity - very rare.
There is no doubt about that, I had enough for legal recourse if it had to go that route, but this is best case scenario. They are making things right in what is the best case for me. I told them I simply can’t be without a truck for X amount of weeks while this one gets repaired. We discussed how the Gen 3 loan was still active and I called my bank to confirm that they had not received the payoff.

The owner worked quickly with the finance guy to put a stop payment in place. I don’t think I will feel truly at ease until I am driving the Gen 3 back home though. Mechanic has to put the Gen 1 spark plugs back in and some other stuff needs to be buttoned up so I can pick it back up. The sad part is that I was beyond excited to be back in a Gen 1 and had no regrets driving it home…obviously that quickly changed. I would likely search for another but the massive headache this has caused, and could have really caused, has now completely turned me off to the idea. As you can imagine, my wife is REALLY not on board with me looking for another, can’t blame her though.

Well...
I did not expect much or any of this.
Surprised by the engine troubles.
And just as much the dealer remedy.
Condolences and congratulations for both.
Hope the rest of this goes good; the travels, trip, and trade back.
Oh yeh, don't forget a few gallons in a gas can to burn that f'in dealership to the ground for the troubles and to keep anyone else from wasting time there.

See, told you I could go back to being an a-hole pretty easy.

Seriously, good luck with everything:)

I suspect they “know a guy”, and will have it repaired and re-list it.

Hence, gas can and a match.

Curious...was the rest of the truck nice enough to be worth repairing if it could be had for less?
If issues were disclosed and price were right....? ? ?

Absolutely flawless truck, needed some paint correction due to improper washing/drying. Interior was like brand new. Zero rust, the frame leaf springs and all other components looked like new. The only hint of rust I saw was around the tops of the shock body (which is common). Minus the obvious motor problems, easily 9/10 everywhere else. Mechanics opinion is that it sat way way to much and they likely were doing way to infrequent oil changes and going off mileage and not changing it based on shelf life. He said it likely wasn’t driven enough and that is what has led to ring/seal failure. This was only a guess on his part but considering how spotless the truck is, likely a good guess. Someone was attempting to preserve every other part of the truck by keeping the miles low and that may have led to its demise.

This^^^^ would be my assent of the truck. The ring was fine when you left the dealer.. I would almost bet money on that. It broke on the drive home. I have seen it before.... mostly in Boats engines.

The ring becomes stuck to the wall each time it passes the spot on the wall it receives a little more damage. next thing you know you are fogging for mosquitoes.
