I've heard people do this. Is their ANY reason to wait till however many miles (in your case 10K) till you switch to synthetic? I hope that doesn't come off as sarcastic because I truly have no idea.

Some people swear to do it right off the bat, other people swear to wait till xx miles. Just like breaking in a vehicle, some say granny it, others say flog it.

My standpoint, everything in moderation. Not going to go to one extreme and change it after 10 miles to synthetic, but also not going ot wait till 30k to change to synthetic either. Same with breaking engines in, I don't flog the snot out of them, but I don't granny them.

On vehicles like my fiance's last car that came factory filled with Mobile 1 (SRT-4), that was an easy one. On vehicles like my Raptor and her current car (5.0 Mustang), that come with a factory fill of what i"m assuming is Ford's Syn Blend, I prefer to just use that for the first couple changes, then swap to Mobile 1.

On the 5.0 the oil change indicator goes off pretty much every 5k miles (even though the book says 10k, and thast why the 5.0 has a MONSTER 8 quart oil pan for extended oil change periods). So the first change at 5k I did ford syn blend, 2nd change at 10k I did Mobile 1, and the 3rd change at 17.5k I did Mobile 1 as well.

Planned on doing the same with the Raptor.

Have 4600 on mine now and changed tonight to 5w20 AMSOIL SIGNATURE Series. Used AMSOIL in everything I own for 15 years. Amsoil filters are WIX for our trucks and Birdman's summary of filters gives WIX high marks. I missed the post on containers - Humvee, which one did you get?

I got my oil drain pan from Wally World. I believe it is this one: Walmart.com: RhinoGear 15-Qt Oil Drain Pan: Automotive

I think I paid $8 and some change for it. No leaks for me. It worked great since oil didn't splash everywhere. Unfortunately, I was a retard and forgot to move the drain pan underneath the oil filter when I screwed it off... :birgits_tiredcoffee

yeah I removed the skid plate too and repainted some of the frame work that was starting to rust. Also, has any one else noticed the plate immediately below the oil pan starting to pit and rust up bad? Upper plate is great but that lower plate of mine looks about 15 years old?
