Well tire manufactures know certain things when they design a tire. KNowing you will used compressed air is calculated in to the known fill point. So as tires get hot they expand, thats why it says fill pressure cold. They mean at the coldest temperature you will see that day. Here is where the science takes place knowing that the air in the tire will expand a certain percentage is part of how the tire dissipates heat. As the tire ballons up it can control heat created by the contact patch to the highway. The greater the contact patch the slower the heat can disipate. This causes heat build up as the tires contact patch does not decrease the tire gets hotter. The hotter the tire the faster it wears. So in the end the heat build up is reduced by the air expanding as the contact patch gets smaller. The smaller the patch the less heat and rolling resistance you have. The negative effect is when cornering your loosing the contact patch reducing the cars ability to hold the road. This effect in Nascar is called the car is developing a push effect. The driver turns the steering wheel and the car wants to go straight. In most racing they use nitrogen to control the effect of the air getting hot in the tire. Nitrogen does get hot just like any gas, hence its a gas. But nitorgen stays at the cold temperture longer so its ideal for racing. For the average person you get a greater benefit from checking tires regualrly in the morning before you drive it...

for what its worth

here they are stock, 100% tread, 0 miles (closest pic i could find of the relatively same angle)

How they currently sit after 25,000 miles

I have posted on this issue before----nitrogen is not a "gimmick"... Look up my posts on the subject. Have discussed this at length with some of the best minds in the industry. Been using nitrogen as soon as it became available here for automobiles. Will agree however that 95% of the drivers on the road will not get the complete benefit even if they used it. Still have to pay attention to tire rotation and proper pressure which most folks just plain do not do.

Congrats on the tires (or tyres) Big J!

I like how this thread has now gone off the rails (as most do around here at some point in time) and has now shifted to the difference between nitrogen and compressed air in tires/tyres.

I found this on the internet so it must be true...

I will say this about nitrogen, when my parents vans tires were filled with nitrogen, the TPMS NEVER went off. This time of year we see pretty big swings in temperature.

Now that they are filled with air, the damn light and dinging doesnt go off till either you drive on the highway for a while, or I gets warmer out.

I lower my PSI and refill too often to worry about putting nitrogen in my rubbers....

More importantly when are we going to get together and run your new tires throught their paces?!?!? :peace:

1000 on road dry pavement miles check in:
-miles to the gallon for both city and highway have improved by a full 2mpg.
-the whole truck just feels lighter and more responsive
-these things roll smooooooooth as butter; if my memory serves, they're at least as smooth as the stock BFGs
-there is a high pitched, albeit quite soft, whine at 50mph+. Doesn't bother me a bit, but it is there so be advised

Overall? I'm totally impressed and happy with the swap! I'll try to update after I've been off road with em, and when I've had to deal with rain or snow.
