I had a serious transmission problem this morning. Yesterday, I was pulling out into traffic and had to gun it because I slipped a little on an icy spot. Traction control kicked in, and when I grabbed traction I was in 2nd gear. When I floored it, it violently downshifted to 1st.
When that happened, the tires broke loose and the truck shuddered really bad. It actually hit the rev limiter and made a loud backfiring noise. Oops.
This morning, it was cold, maybe 15* and I had left the YETI outside in its natural habitat overnight. It also snowed a little over night. I started my truck with the remote and let it run for 5 minutes. When I went outside, I put my key in, and turned on all the defrosters to help melt the snow while I brushed some off.
I took off driving and immediately noticed the YETI had no power, and was shifting very erratically. Gears were revving higher than normal, and the truck wouldn't go past 4th when it's normally in 6th. I immediately thought about what might have happened and remembered what happened yesterday.
As my trip went on, about 20 minutes, I was getting more and more worried. The truck was hunting between 3rd and 4th, and still felt like there was no power. I thought about what might be wrong. No warning lights, everything seemed ok otherwise.
I began thinking how I could describe the symptoms here on FRF to get an immediate answer to my problem. I thought to myself, how do I describe this? It feels like it's in Off Road Mode.
I looked down....you ******* IDIOT! I found the problem and it existed in the driver's seat! I had accidentally pressed the ORM button when I turned on the defrosters and didn't realize it.
Cause: Low coffee level in driver.
Fix: Press the ORM button to shut it off.
