I'm a noobie here and just bought a '14 and am looking for a tune. I see the two big names are SVC and 5star. I see SVC is one tune no matter what you do, so I imagine if you drive conservative your mileage will increase from factory but if your heavy on the gas you get more response better shifts etc? The others have different tunes that need to be loaded up for Econ or perf.

I'm just trying to figure out which is better? Do they both perform fairly similar? I hate the shift points on my truck and find myself in manual shift mode often. I put on a lot of miles so like some extra mileage when traveling but really want the added performance while playing and would rather not be switching things around all the time if I don't need to. I normally run 93 octane.

I'm coming from a 12 lariat ecoboost that was quicker and snappier than this raptor and am looking to get some of that zip back! So, who has played with both or can tell me which will give me the best results?
This is also posted in the SVC tune section, sorry I didn't see this thread before. Any help at all is great. It looks like SVC made some improvements to the 0-60 so it is great to see them make improvements and may be the way to go. I like companies that are lookIng for ways to improve and it seems like they are taking care of their previous customers without added expense of purchasing another better tune

I have ran both tunes. Let me start by saying that both of these tunes are a dramatic improvement over the stock tune. Also both I have had the pleasure of working with both Mike at 5 star, and Jeff at SVC. They have accommodated all of my questions quickly and promptly. They also addressed any concerns I had in a reasonable manor.

The two tunes deal with the octane levels do your gas in different ways. The SVC tune allows you to change the global spark setting to account for the different octane contents of your gas. They will give you the recommendations. The 5 star tune sets the global spark for you on each tune so you do not have to adjust it. I am not sure if Mike has other adjustments that I don't know about in the different octane rated tunes. One can argue which is the better way to accomplish dealing with the octane levels.

The other big difference is the shift points that each tune provides. The 5star product has different tunes for 3 types of shift point schemes performance, tune, and economy. In contrast the SVC tune has 1 scheme that seems to try to walk the tight rope between performance and everyday drivability. Again there can be a lot of discussion about the right way to do this and pros and cons to each.

I am currently running the SVC tune for my daily driving because I enjoy the drivability of the tune.

5star kills SVC in power.. With my truck anyway. 5star shifts a little hard but I just adjust the pressure down by 10% while putting the 5* on

just my opinion which means nothing but on our very heavy trucks a "tune" is like doing a boob job on a 90 year old woman. WHY????

Just because she's 90 doesn't mean she can't learn to shake her ass like a 20 year old. ;)

no, but I am working with Jeff, just sent him an 800 mb file of my truck running pulls with the tune on so they can modify it for me.

got my new SVC tune in yesterday. So far I'm very happy with it. shifts are still buttery smooth, but I can now drop it to 1st on demand, and the small miss I was having going from 1st to second is gone.

nice job guys, love the revised tune!

So I emailed SVC to ask about where to look on my truck to find the numbers they want on their form almost a week ago and no response. I got the vin, the other numbers I'm not sure of. I've never done tunes like this and always took my vehicle to a pro for mods and tunes. I just find it easier to let a pro tear into stuff on my vehicles. Either they think I'm an idiot for asking and think I don't deserve their tune or maybe they are to busy to reply. Either way not a good sign for me getting a tune. Maybe it's a sign to try the fivester. Do they need the same info?
