So, I was lucky enough to receive the updated SVC tune from Jeff last night - first and foremost, he and the guys over at SVC deserve nothing but praise...amazing customer service. Haven't had a great experience with 5*, not necessarily the tunes, but the service is not up to par...but that's a different story for a different day...
anyhow, i had the chance to load the tune last night. wasn't anticipating driving the truck till later this morning after i installed the new y pipe and Corsa Xtreme. but, i will say, i'm a first impression kind of guy and my first impression of the SVC tune and the service was excellent.
"The Tune"
-Subtle, yet significant, especially the shifting strategy. Does not feel like it's holding gears too long or moving onto the next unexpectedly. It's just smooth as silk
-The power is definitely there, it's not jumpy or "balls the wall", but follows the rpm ranges nicely. I didn't feel a lack of power or too much power (is there such a thing?) at any particular RPM range
-startup & idle. here, it was a bit touchy for me originally, since with headers and my exhaust, i need to be careful - my neighbors are ***** - so the quieter the startup & idle, the better. first, cold start, very loud (i enjoyed it...neighbors...ehh, not so much) the idle was nice too. don't get me wrong, this is NOT a negative about the tune, just a negative for my particular situation. Within 24hrs, Jeff had that taken care of and now i'm right at stock idle when i fire her up, sounds great.
-overall impression - excellent, i would describe the tune as a "5 tool player" in baseball, just has everything you want and need and then some.
But wait...
I'll call it, "The Tune 2.0"...
-first impression - holy shit!, second thought, wow!
-any of you familiar with the seat of your pants tunes out there, you'll get that with this revision of the tune. Very quick off the line, but not jumpy - power increase doesn't feel forced, just smooth and quick, no sudden drop off in power either
-shifting is still incredibly smooth, never seems to hold a gear longer than it should
-power, you'll feel it early and continue to feel it throughout the rpm range. was nice to see that increase down low without feeling like you're in stop and go traffic with someone gunning it, then slamming the brakes. i've felt that with other tunes and absolutely hated it.
-idle and startup is mean - a little higher than stock, but not so much to wake the neighbors, shoots up high on cold start and then settles in for a nice, low, mean rumble
-overall impression - no brainer, i'll run this exclusively from here on in
Overall, either tune would be great on its own as two separate offerings, SVC was awesome enough to offer it as a revision so far, it's out of this world. Thanks again to Jeff and SVC, great work once again!
