We had snow, ice and slush here a couple of weeks ago. Put the Raptor in 4-Hi and all was well...in a straight line, turning...well...had to be taken a little slower than take-offs. Wasn't deep enough to plow.

I did get to witness proof that people in my neck of the woods cannot drive when there is snow on the ground. BMW in between two trees, Mustang GT accidental 360 in the middle of an intersection, Mazda 6 parked on top of Pampas grass, and the general driving 80% slower than the speed limit.

No hooning for me though

I was home in SEVA at Christmas time when the local news was off by about 6 inch of how much snow we got. They were saying a foot and we had a foot and a half at my parents house.

I don't understand all the positive reviews, when I was up in the snow a couple weekends back it did not perform well at all? I had to get in 4wd and even engage the E-locker while the Superduty with me was still in 2wd to go where we were going??? I'm not just "bashing" for no reason because I love this truck and majority of it I blame on the POS BFG's and the POS Auto 6pd. I can't wait to upgrade tires at least.

I definitely blame the tires as part of the culprit because as I was tracking through lightly snowed roads, (wet melting snow), my BFG's were not cleaning themselves out and it was evident by my ~10" wide solid flat tracks. While the Superduty behind me had the new Big O Mud Terrains and he had some great looking lug imprints in his tracks. So I know that is part of the issue. But even in 4wd with the E-locker on I was slipping and sliding all over the place from the left to the right sides of the road while he was right behind me in 2wd grippin and rippin with out sliding around hardly at all.

Than after that, the next day I was in a small 25' or so mud pit and got stuck when even the Toyo on 33's (pretty much all stock except lift and worn tires) plowed right through without any issues (multiple times). I was very upset and dissapointed to say the least. Again I realize the tires are part of the problem, but I've owned 4wds that were bad enough to get me anywhere I wanted to go on damn near bald tires before (without any raves or specialty engineering), so what gives?

Any explanations from the people that drive their Raptor off-road more often than I ??? FFS

Not that i am saying that the stock tires aren't the best in the world for mud or snow. IMO it is also the driver sometimes, not saying that your a bad driver at all. I also agree that better tires would make a world of dif.

I understand about the driver error, but when you are just traveling low static speed (10mph) on a semi-cut road covered in a small layer of melting snow there isn't much wrong you can do as far as driver error. We were all following each other in the same tracks even, so it's not like I was taking a bad line compared to the others or anything. Everyone else their agreed the tires and the performance of the pickup just wasn't cutting the mustard.

On another note, I went through some desert trails and many whoops later in the day and it performed amazingly. Nothing could come close. I have pretty much set in my mind for now to keep my off-roading if/when to desert/dunes in this vehicle. At least until I can make some changes... FFS

I wouldnt know how it performs in 2wd since I engage it before I am in anything... I guess its a habit from all the get out and locking the hub days...

Raptor is awesome in lite snow but sucks in deep snow. The skid plate works like a snow plow.

Sucks compared to what other pickup? How does the skid plate "work like a snow plow"?

The only reasons I can think of for the Raptor to have issues in the snow would be (1) the tires and (2) not having any/enough weight in the back.

The tires would clearly be the primary reason for poor performance in snow. As you've stated, the BFG A/T KO treads don't self-clean and won't perform in snow or mud as well as a tire with wider gaps between the treads (like a Mud Tire).

Adding some weight to the bed of the truck will help the rear end gain traction but the tires will be the limiting factor.
