Great thread update. Thanks all! I am a month waiting on my exchange program rebuilds to show up. This confirms for me that is probably the best way to go with my Gen 1, a 2014 with 29k miles on it. Love it. I did the rebuild with the flutter valves, schraders, and viton seals. Hope to get them this time next week. The wait is killing me. Oh and I'm going to try the pic upload BenBB mentioned above as I haven't tried that yet. :)View attachment 120983

I would like to thank all the members of this forum who figured out how to make this work. I bought a front pair of Gen 2 new take-off shocks for less than $200 on ebay, out for delivery as we speak. These shocks supposedly have less than 50 miles on them. If they pass inspection when delivered I will be installing in the next week as one of my Gen 1 shocks is blown and leaking. If possible I will use the Geisser progressive springs off my Gen 1 shocks.

If you use geisers can you let me know how the front end sits compared to the rear?

Are there shock fabrication companies out there that could custom shorten the body/shaft of Gen 2 Fox shocks an inch or two? Seems that would fix the issues with the longer shock installed in a Gen 1. I seem to remember someone doing that, it may have been on another forum.

Some custom lower control arms would make more sense. There are lots of aftermarket lower control arms, if there was one that was made specifically to pair up with gen 2 shock then that would be the way to go

Sounds good to me. Hopefully someone will come out with a kit to make this all function properly — without losing travel. That’s what’s holding me back.

Edit: Custom lower control arms for the Raptor are around 2K, which would negate the savings.

I guess even if they were that expensive, it still might be a worth while upgrade if you planned on running second gen shocks until the end of time, considering how cheap you can pick them up. I really dont think the gen 2 shocks will stay cheap forever, considering the NEW shocks on the 2019s (?) are live valve and we will be seeing less and less take offs on ebay. Anyways..

Ive read threw this tread and the other thread and have got mixed feelings on this. Any updates from people that have done this swap? im in need of new shocks and gen 2 shocks are still pretty cheap on ebay.

Agree- they won't be cheap for long. Nobody will want the 19+ live shocks, and the guys yanking low mile shocks off of 17 and 18s will end very soon.
