I'm sure a big part of it is to avoid stolen tech, but as well, not every decision is made yet, and people don't like to get their hopes up only to be disappointed. Ford probably has not completed decided they are going to do a V8 SC in the Raptor yet, how limited of a release it will be if so, and when it will be available to the public. Better to hold everything till you can answer every question, or give out information that turns out to not be true.

There's also the idea that 'hype' only lasts so long. I've seen commentary that Ford made a mistake by announcing the Bronco almost a year in advance and taking preorders. When we do actually see Broncos on the road, it won't be that big of a deal anymore. Some may get tired of waiting and go get a jeep instead. In the case of something like the cybertruck and Rivian, how many of those preorders won't happen because the customer is no longer excited about it?

Most of those Cybertruck were pre pandemic orders to. Some things have changed. What people want changes after doing pre orders years out. First year models too. Not always the best idea unless you have to have it and want to be that kid on the block. Vehicles do get more refined years after there release.

I know this is a little off subject but since were talking about electric vehicles I just received this email this morning. I was one of the many that were blessed with the first year model Gremlins, and from what I understand Jeep still has ongoing issues with the steering that they can not fix. I can`t even think of being one of the first on the block to have something that a manufacturer is releasing without them having any long term experience in. Jeep has the eTorque which is identified as a Mild-Hybrid but that is expected to gone as an option completely by 2021. I still find it interesting that the top of the line Rubicon doesn't even have electric seats.

The new Raptor would be a definite YES, Ford has been building the number one selling truck for a long time.Changing the rear suspension from leaf springs to coil springs is not a new concept. When it comes to engine choice with the new Raptor it`s going to be either the same or modified version of it or possibly a V-8 which they have been building and installing in their high dollar Mustangs. I don`t know about the F-150 Hybrid, not sure if I`d want to be the first to own one

IMO

I'm not terribly concerned about reliability for an F-150 hybrid, what I don't have a good feel for is how it's going to effect the driving experience and cost of ownership. I can imagine that it makes it a little more fun to drive, but if not, I'm not sure I want to trade in my Gen 2 for that. These are things that can be found out fairly easily before buying though.

Ram has to be a little nervous. They are at a huge weight disadvantage so if the Raptor has anything close to the same amount of HP, it will be faster/quicker.

Also, Ram seems to be pulling their HP number from the more optimistic side of things. I drove the 440HP power wagon and even with its we little 31” tires, it was so slow!

But this is typical of dodge and typical of dodge buyers. Throw horsepower at it so their one dimensional buyers can have something to brag about.

Agreed. It appears their strategy is to capture market share by employing the Hellcat engine. If Ford releases the 5.2 Predator, those bragging rights disappear.

Also, Ram seems to be pulling their HP number from the more optimistic side of things. I drove the 440HP power wagon and even with its we little 31” tires, it was so slow!

To be fair, the 6.4 in the Power Wagon is rated at 410HP, and it’s a 7300lb 3/4 ton (2500) truck. The Ford equivalent competitor would be an F-250 Tremor.

I got the feeling that Ram is happy to have people come to the dealership to look at it, or admire from a far, then come in and buy something else. They're going to judge it's success not so much on performance or sales, but how it effects sale of all Rams.

Good point. As a halo vehicle, it works.
