Recently my 2019 started throwing the error on the display of “Terrain Management Not Available” whenever I tried to select a driving mode. I have spent a ridiculous amount of time understanding the Terrain Management System (TMS) by trial and error, diagnostic tools, and the help of our forum member FordTechOne. I found the information online on the TMS to be lacking to say the least and frankly what I did find wasn’t fully accurate. So, in the hopes of helping anyone that experiences this issue after me a way to quickly understand what is going on and how to resolve it.


The TMS is made up of several components: (All part numbers are for my 2019)

· Vehicle Dynamics Module (VDM) – KL3V-18B008-AK (to find it online search for just 18B008)

o Powered by fuse 14 in the fuse box near the battery​

· Ride Height Sensor

o Front Left - 3C097​

o Front Right - 3C097​

· Live Valve Solenoid

o Front Left - KL3Z-18B082-D​

o Front Right - KL3Z-18B082-C​

o Rear Left - KL3Z-18B084-D​

o Rear Right - KL3Z-18B084-C​


In my journey trying to understand what was happening with my 2019 I was challenged by the fact that there were no codes visible in ForScan. I went and purchased the same diagnostic computer Ford dealers use (VCM3) and the IDS software. This afforded me more diagnostic tests which led me to seeing that the VDM wasn’t reachable for testing. This highlights a key difference between ForScan and the Ford IDS software. ForScan will only show you the modules that are live on the network, while IDS will show you the modules that are not active on the network. In this case when there was limited information available, ForScan didn’t help me initially. Had I known that the VDM is the key module for Terrain Management, having it not show up in ForScan would have helped me focus the investigation.

If you have Terrain Management issues, use ForScan to look for the VDM module. If it doesn’t show up, check Fuse 14 in the fuse box by the battery (The manual says that fuse 14 is not used, which caused me to waste time trying to find the power source to the VDM). If it does show up, look for any codes that it may have produced. I have included below the chart of codes that the VDM may throw and what they mean. If the fuse is intact you can use the wiring diagrams and connector pinouts I have placed on the following link (Link to docs) to help trace the circuits to find the issue.

One note: The VDM and the codes listed are used across a number of Ford vehicles. Not all codes are relevant to the Raptor. For example, the Raptor only has ride height sensors on the front wheels.

I truly hope this helps as I would have loved to have this post months ago.

Big thank you for this post!!!! I was getting the terrain management not available error. I was ready to take it to the dealer. Would have been embarrassed when they found I used an fuse tap on fuse 14 for my morimoto lights start up. Since it was suppose to be not used. Removed tap and it works. Fuses were good. Maybe bad tap but I will troubleshoot that later.

TWO DEALERS FOUR DAYS NO ONE CAN FIX TM...WENT TO LOOK AT #14 AND THERE WAS NO FUSE!! I PUT THE ONE FROM 15 INTO 14 AND IT WORKED...QUESTION;ITS 15 AMP, IS THIS CORRECT??

Hi, I lifted my 2019 Raptor 6 inches and Im getting the TMS Not Available. Already checked for the fuse 14 and that doesn’t fix the issue. Any other known fix?

If you lifted a Raptor 6 inches, God knows what you screwed up. Good luck. Did you look for the TMS to show up in Forscan?

I’m going through this right now on my ‘19. Rear suspension was done 2 years ago. Front suspension done about 9 months ago. LV shocks removed and have been running the plug in bypass module from RPG the past 2 years. Never any problems until last week.
My modes will work just fine when I drive my truck for the first time of the day. Will last about 10-15 minutes in sport mode, then the truck throws it back into normal mode by itself. Then if I try to change the mode at that point I get the message “terrain mode unavailable “
So since it will work briefly when I first run the truck for the day, I doubt it’s a fuse issue. Truck has been at the dealer for 2 days now with no word
