Another professional nerd here. Raptor is pickup #7 of out of seven total 4-wheeled vehicles ever owned (one at a time).

The Raptor is not a terribly expensive truck unless you get ripped off by the dealer or mod the snot out of it.

I figure they cost $8k more than a comparable non-Raptor GM or Ford 1/2 ton. Price isn't much more than an FX4 but you lose all the rebates. All of that is refundable when you sell it, possibly and then some. If I sold my Raptor today my cost of ownership would be substantially less than if I purchased a regular GM or Ford 1/2 ton.

They're certainly more expensive in gas if you drive 20-30k/year. Insurance didn't go up significantly compared to my then 7 year old GM half ton.

In the hierarchy of "toys for the rich", the Raptor ranks right up there against a mid-level Lexus, lower-end BMW/MB/Audi products, diesel pickups, "normal" Corvette C6's, etc.

Buy a house first? Seriously? I forewent buying a house in Southern California....because I can do math and elected to avoid the completely obvious housing crash that is still happening. I can certainly understand those who've initially entered the housing market in the past five years in socal because they need a house, but the idea that they're a critical financial investment makes me laugh. Party like it's 2006 everyone, no worries, the government will save you again! If you get in trouble, just walk away...or just stay and don't pay!

In flight missile repair man/ space shuttle door gunner. Aka I'm a recon marine. I'm a sgt so the pay is shit but I have got to play in the desert with some bad ass toys with some guys I will never forget. It's a very fulfilling job to me.

Also a homeowner (renters paying the mortgage)

Yfz 450 that's scary fast and the rest goes into guns. Life's good

Good to see another recon guy on the forums.

Your right pay sucks, but the guys and the toys make up for it
