How long do you guys keep your spare? I have a 2011 and as far as i know the spare is original so its 13+ years old and has spent the last few years in the bed. I have aftermarket wheels and tires so the spare is just a "get me home" tire but I'm wondering if i should chance it on a 13 year old tire. I've been reluctant to just get a matching spare due to cost plus i don't think they make my wheel anymore so I'd have a mismatched set (although i have that now). I've also thought about getting a cover to protect it from UV but I've never seen anyone with a covered spare in the bed. Is it not worth worrying about. Maybe I'll just get a new tire and keep the stock rim and cover it. thoughts?

Five years. I got a set of three and rotated in the spare at four years and the old tire now has 2/32" less tread than the other three. Maybe two more years before it becomes unsafe. It will be gone by then.

I’m still rocking my original 2017 spare; but it’s part of a 6 wheel rotation. I brought it in at the tire swap about 20k miles ago.

I replaced my four original BFGoodrich's last year on my 2010 due to tire manufactures recommending safe tire life five to six years. Knowing they want to sell tires I doubled that time before I bought new tires. Thread was still good on those. I'm still using the spare since it's never been used.

Most likely will be coming out of the mountains and it'd be a real shame to have to throw the spare on and have it disintegrate

I'm thinking the next tire purchase will be 5 tires, keep the OEM spare rim and cover it.

I assume your aftermarket rims dont use the factory lugs...
Might as well get a 5th wheel to mount spare on so the lugs and sockets to change it are the same.
Then sell the factory wheel and spare...someone will buy it.
