Damnit, is it Aug 3rd already?!?!?!!? OMG, this month wit is going to suck! Yesterdays run was awesome! Can't wait to pair it with the first run and getting to meet and hang out with some fine FRF folks...lets do this already!
Lol, I'm right there with ya buddy. I'm ready to go back out!

That looks like the same sand box we went to last year.

You are correct sir. The first leg is part of last year. We actually found a lake bed about 3x-4x bigger on the new leg.

I thought all those cow-pies looked familiar!

This run looks great...wish I could go! :favorites68:

Damn puddle, you never come out and play

I want to remind everyone who plans on making the run, a VHF radio is MANDATORY. There are many turns on this run and it is way to easy to get separated from the group even if you have GPS. Unfortunately, there's no way around this cost if you don't have one and wish to attend.

For those who still need radios, here's a link to Treypal's group buy. He's still selling them at this pricing I believe. I recommend getting the mounted Icom unit but a handheld will do.

http://www.fordraptorforum.com/f29/icom-f5021-radio-package-group-buy-16507/

And here's another option BlueSVT posted up earlier. Best option IMO as long as you don't mind modifying it.

---------
I've also shared this info, which may be helpful to some that want to save some cash, and have a little more flexibility.

My buddy has had GREAT experience with this radio, the Yaesu FT-2900R:

Amazon.com: Yaesu FT-2900R 75 Watt 2 Meter VHF Mobile Transceiver Amateur Ham Radio: Car Electronics

Only catch if you read the fine print is that it only "receives" communication between frequencies 136-174Mhz and we run on 151.625. HOWEVER! There is a simple "mod" you can do to the radio, which unlocks transmitting AND receiving on the entire range! That's what my buddy did... works perfect, and you can type in any frequency you want to transmit on, at any time! Which is very nice...

Here is a "how-to" on the modification (supposedly not legal in the eyes of the FCC)...

Yaesu ft-2900r frequency modification mars mod

So for $220, you can have a full function 75-watt radio which works across a very broad spectrum, and you can type in you own frequencies! Many other models (most in fact) require that you program channels in those ranges.

Hope that helps! We've done dozens of runs... so my recommendations come after experience with a variety of plotters and radios.

Hell Noah, maybe you should invest in the Yeasu ones too, mod them (link above) and then sell to members already modified... just don't announce that you're selling them modded on the forum publicly! LOL

I have installed both the Icom and Yeasu... Icom is the best for the general public and is pretty hard to screw it up. There is a reason a lot of off road teams use them. The downside is the programming, if on a run I am on I can program it on the fly for you before we roll out.. Yeasu, which I have 7900 to change out to broadcast is illegal, it can be done, it is a nerve racking thing to do and takes some one skilled in soldering and un-soldering. It is illegal so to sell one modified is a crime and you don't want the headache in case it comes full circle some guy broadcasts on one you modified they will come find you... However if you understand the risk and still feel comfortable doing what needs to be done its a great radio.... For most of us stick to the Icom radio its durable, powerful enough and make sure you get a good antenna and proper installation... I did Ihavegas installation I was very happy overall how it came out and think it looks good the way we did his... Icom F5021 is on amazon sub 300 so look for it.. Antennas run about 45.00 plus mount for a decent one... To get maximum value buy them together and Noah can do the install I will teach him how...lol...

It was pretty simple to set up. I'm sure there's a better way but I just hooked it up to the battery and ran it into the truck. I mounted it in the center console. You can hook it up to your speakers but I can hear it fine with the volume cranked and the lid closed.
