It won't be a deal breaker for me but even I would MUCH prefer a V8 option as it completes the truck imo. It's a beast that needs to sound like a beast! Could I get used to a 450hp v6 that performs better off-road than my 2013? Probably, but I suspect a part of me would always miss the thundering v8. But then I'm not selling my 2013 ever!

Funny with some of these comments, seems like you guys just wanted ford to Grandfather out the Gen 1 with the old design as a 2017 model year and not change anything lol.

I hope someone digs this thread back up in 2 years when the trucks are out and hitting the streets and the gen 2 grows on most of you's and you dig back and see what you posted and think "wtf was I saying?" lol especially as a lot will probably be trading in, despite what you're saying now, after you see one in person and your gen 1 suddenly looks and feels dated.

It's just the cycle of a new generation of a model, happens practically every time ford or any auto maker comes out with a new gen design lol.

Are there some things I'm not a huge fan on? Sure! But overall I think they did a badazz job. There are some things on my Gen 1 Raptor that I'm not a huge fan of either, but again overall I think they did a great job.

But since we're posting what we think, here's my 2 cents....

DISLIKES:
-Front fender vents look blah. Personally I'll miss the SVT acronym, and "FP" for Ford Performance just doesn't have the same ring to it as 3 letter acronyms. But aside, the smaller and rounder shape of the front fender vents don't look as aggressive as the gen 1 vents.

-Tailgate. I like the throwback to older fords with the imprinted Ford on it, but the big plastic panel looks a little cheapy. I'll have to reserve full judgement till I see one in person though. Maybe if it's a metallic gray like the fender flares I'll like it, but if it's a textured plastic like the bedrail caps I'll hate it since that fades quickly and looks cheap

-10 speed trans. I know it'll offer better mileage, and perhaps better performance, but with so many gears, it's turning into a near CVT it seems. I personally like feeling and hearing the truck wind through the gears, and feel a kick in the pants on a WOT shift, but with so many gears and spaced so close together, I have a feeling that around town driving the RPM range will be extremely limited, and even WOT it'll probably just drop a couple hundred RPM between shifts instead of a grand or two, so less feeling of winding through the gears, and more flipping through the gears.

LIKES:

-Ecoboost! I held out on buying an '11 Raptor with the hopes the '12 would have the 365 hp ecoboost. When it wasn't offered, I just bought a 6.2 '12 anyway. Estatic the '17 will have an ecoboost, especially one making more power than the 6.2, and especially with 500 lbs less weight lugged around!

-Cameras! Love my front & rear camera now, having the 360 is even better!

-Dovetail! There's some hate on that exhaust, but I personally like it, and if you notice they slimmed up the rear bumper and tucked the exhaust up so it won't hang any lower than a gen 1 bucker with NO exhaust out the back, and they even dove tailed the rear fenders for the lower profile rear bumper stock. Love it!

I think us Gen 1 guys wanting a Gen 2 are in a really great position. There will always be diehards who ONLY want a V8, and would rather buy a Gen 1 V8 than a Gen 2 V6, so our 6.2's will depreciate less than if the Gen 2 also came with a V8.

My '12 will be paid off in spring of '18. Gen 2's are supposed to start showing up in fall of '16, so lets just say '17 they really start arriving. I'm sure dealers will want a mint and MSRP for that first year, so by '18 when mine's paid off, the buzz will have died down, Gen 2's will be sitting on lots instead of waiting on order banks, and my 6 year old Gen 2 will probably have 50k miles and still mint condition, so hopefully I can still get a pretty penny for it and trade in for a '18 Rap!

That is....if Ford Performance doesn't reveal news of a Gen III Lightning by then, then forget the Gen 2 Rap! lol

I am glad that there is an A-pillar grab handle like the 2015 F-150s. This is missing from our Raptors and I know some members wished that it was available...

Noticed that the interior still has Microsoft Sync but the NAV display looks like the new QNX, so a tad confusing there. A lot more options by the headlight switch, curious what that all might be.

I think you nailed it. The only thing that could be tweaked at this point is the exhaust, its just in a bad spot. Its super easy to smash an exhaust pipe thats rear exiting compared to one that exits behind the rear tires. Im sure aftermarket will fix that ASAP if Ford doesnt before launch.

The 10 speed might be more like a CVT but itll drop more than a couple hundred RPM when youre doing WOT pulls. Ive driven a bunch of CVT style trannies and most are decent. The latest is my mother in law just got a 15' Forester XT and when you give it WOT rolling on the highway it has no problems jumping a couple thousand RPMS and holding all the way to redline until it shifts, especially in SI-Drive mode.

Tailgate has too much plastic and I hope they have an option out of the giant ***** stamp. Either way Im super exited for the Gen 2 since I was forced to not order the 14' like I originally planned.

But if you look closely the height of the bumper was reduced drastically pulling the bottom of the bumper upwards, allowing them to tuck the exhaust way up, so pretty much that the gen 2 exhaust doesn't hang any lower than the gen 1's bumper. It wouldn't surprise me if the Gen 2 exhaust still ends up with more clearance than the Gen 1's bumper.

Now of course aftermarket exhaust out the side may net even more clearance, but I don't think they reduced approach/departure angles over the gen 1.

I'm not so sure on that, with 10 speeds it'll probably zip through at least 7 if not 8 gears in a 1/4 mile run. Addding into the fact that with more power and less weight, it wouldn't surprise me at all if it sheds an easy 1/2-3/4 second in the 1/4 mile. That's a lot of gears to cram in with less time no less, so less time winding out each gear.

Was that forester an actual CVT? Many CVTs have programmed in tuning that makes them feel like a conventional transmission with shift points even though they don't actually shift. Looking on subi's website "Lineartronic® CVT with low mode (2.5i models) or 6- and 8-speed manual shift modes and paddle shifters (2.0XT models)" which means the CVT will feel like a 6 speed or 8 speed trans "manually" shifting it. And blipping through 6 simulated gears will make it feel like you're winding out imaginary CVT gears a lot more than 10 gears would wind out.

Close your eyes...ok now envision this...Hot desert, blowing sand , the distant sound of a motor WOT at 6000 rpm being paddle shifted around the corners...then over a mirage covered rise you see a blur kicking dust for miles...you creep behind a cholla bush to get off the course.. And suddenly you see it a DARKER COLORED TERRAIN 17 RAPTOR. It's airborn over a slight rise as it whips by at 95 mph...it lands with no bottoming and gets right back on the throttle and disappears as fast as it approached. The result.....24 teeth sucking wind.
