@Oldfart as I recall you have a 2020 - is “Deep Snow/Mud” an actual setting? My 2018 has a “weather” mode and a “sand/mud” mode.
Weather mode is obviously snow/ice mode with 4A and dampened throttle response.

Sorry, I was thinking it was Deep Snow/Mud, I just went and double checked, it's "Deep Snow/Sand". I just went back and corrected my post. That mode also holds gears similar to how sport mode does, so you tend to be in a lower gear than you would with normal mode.

@Oldfart may have something when in deep snow, but for just driving around town 4A is awesome if it’s a light dusting, or you’re running into icy patches at intersections. Anything over 2” and I throw the truck in 4H. To me the “Slippery” mode just dulls the throttle response and irritate the hell out of me.

I was experimenting with the 4A in deeper snow just to see how it did. I was out in about 20", and it worked well, but it scared me on a curvy back road with a lot of side slope to it and the front end started drifting towards a ditch and not correcting with the steering at all. I remembered I was in 4A and under very little power, as soon as I got on the throttle the front end grabbed and pulled me back towards the middle again. Definitely puckered me for a second! That's the only downside I saw to 4A.

From what I have read and experienced, the locker will not ENGAGE over 20 mph. It will operate over 20 mph, but DISENGAGE above 55mph, and re-engage when you drop below 55 again. When I set it up to run on the snow track I made, it was always locked when I pitched it into the corners. It was consistent for the hour I ran the track.

Depending on the mode when it will disengage:

I'm not a snow expert, but I did learn pretty much this season so far. To drive in deep snow, put it in "Deep Snow/Sand" mode, and lock the rear differential. That will get you through DEEP snow. If you also want to play and throw it around, press and hold the Traction Control to turn it off, you will then be able to do nice drifts and slides. I tried 2 wheel Baja mode and it gave me way too much wheelspin in deep snow, I would think it would be great fun in shallower snow.

The Deep Snow mode pulled us through 12"+ on relatively flat ground.
Attempting a steep hill, I ran out of talent/traction.
If you spin too much in 4A, the system automatically puts you into 4H.

Didn't know that.

Ok, not a differential expert here... why would 3 of the offroad modes have no set speeds, and the other 3 do?

My eld doesn’t disengage automatically, I ran it up to almost 60 the other day in the snow/ice crappy roads, I had to manually disengage =undocumented feature?

Depends on the mode:

Note 1applies to Mud/Sand or whatever it's called depending on year.

Baja doesn’t have any Auto engagement or disengagement.

Note 1 applies to 4L also, as well as, having a maximum engagement and disengagement speed should you decide to manually override the automatic engagement when mode is selected and by disengaging the rear differential.

Hope I stated everything correctly and hope it clears it up a little.
