Yup, I saw that coming. Like I said, it's a great concept, just not a great final product. I haven't had time to come up with my own version but, I do have something in mind.

Sorry about your door, Rick.

I just started to tell my wife what happened, and she starting in... (She had the Raptor today). "OMG, that thing sucks. It came right out of the door, and I almost broke my nail. Your lucky I didn't throw it in the ******** woods". That is an exact quote.

Guys,

We really are working very hard to figure out a good solution for this issue. Our key problem is that we don't have access to a car in which this problem would manifest itself. With the several vehicles we tried, the fit is snug and there are no issues with pulling. We are asking all customers who have this problem to please share your experience: was this a problem from the beginning? Has it gotten worse over time? There are a lot of questions we'd like to ask you in order to try to get closer to understanding this issue fully. Please message us with your telephone number if you’d be so kind, we’d like to give you a call to discuss your issues via telephone.

Why some people have issues and majority does not:

We are investigating differences between the construction of the factory door pull between different year models and trim levels. There might be a range of door pulls that were made with higher tolerance than others. That's why the SnapRest is looser on some cars versus others.

We also believe that the factory plastic, while thick, is not enforced in any way so the SnapRest might actually be stretching it, by the sheer fact of being pushed into the door pull, and that causes the performance of the SnapRest to degrade over time.

What can you do if your SnapRest pulls out while closing door

  1. Make sure both the SnapRest and the door pull well are cleaned and de-greased. SnapRest relies on friction. Any thin layer of film on the factory door pull resultant from its use over time will degrade that friction.
  2. Make sure the SnapRest is fully installed. Give it a bang with your fist. Make sure that the entire base of the SnapRest rests firmly against the door armrest.
Should the above fail to suffice, please consider using the 3M High Performance Protective Film PU8592E that greatly improves SnapRest's grip in two ways:
  1. it adds 0.2mm of thickness to each side-wall of SnapRest adapter which is just enough to make it sit firmly in the door pull recess even though the recess itself gets a bit worn thus wider from normal everyday driving
  2. due to the technical specs (high mechanical resistance, resistance to fluids, pressure, abrasion and friction) and it's a bit rubber-like composition it provides additional grip by compressing between the walls of SnapRest adapter and the walls of door pull void and filling the tiny space that appears normally between two surfaces rubbing against one another.

So, what you need to do to make the SnapRest sit firmly and remain fully functional for a long time is to add a strip of this PU8592E tape to the side walls of the SnapRest adapter in its upper part. Depending on how loose the SnapRest seems, on strip on just one side might be enough, if not - just add the tape to the other side.

While adding this tape provides additional width and significantly better grip to the SnapRest adapter, you will most probably need to apply much more force to install the SnapRest in your truck - ie push it down into the door pull recess really hart until it sits firmly and flush with the surface of factory door armrest. Don't worry about breaking it. We will send you a new one for free if that happens.

So definitely start with one strip, and only add it on the second side if necessary.

We will send the 3M tape to anybody who requests it, just message or email us and we'll send you the necessary piece for free.

In fact we will include the 3M tape and necessary instructions with all SnapRest s going forward.

Another modification we are doing is that future SnapRest s will have a much more coarse texture on the adapter, which should also help provide the necessary grip to make our product stay in place the way we intended it in the design phase.

We most sincerely apologize to all those who had issues with the SnapRest disengaging unexpectedly. We didn't take into account how significant the differences between the particular batches of the door pull well between year models, trim levels, etc. could be.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to contact me in case of further questions. I’m here to help!

Have a great day,
Maciek

Hi guys

We tested the 3M tape. It's PERFECT. You will break the door panel before you get the SnapRest out - that's a literal quote from my tech guru.

Before this weekend is over we will email all current customers this information with a free offer to receive that tape from us, free of charge - all it takes is a reply email.

Have a great day,
Maciek

PS. There will be more good news on the gap between the SnapRest and the door, as soon as I have pictures downloaded from our camera and available online. Basically we've added 1/8" padding on the inside of the SnapRest eliminating that gap pretty much altogether. Stay tuned.

As you can see we are willing to do all it takes to get this product to perfection. And we are basically there. Just need to prove it to you with my new pics!

I think I will wait until you come up with a better solution than putting some 3M ClearBra on the insert to eventually in the heat get all gummed up in the door handle. That's just a mess waiting to be cleaned up.

The only real solution is to make an access panel in the top of the plastic so we can take off the OEM screw for the door handle and use that to secure it. And a new base so it can be closer to the door panel so we don't have to cut yours in half and move the cut piece to the other side.

Why so you can compare it to yours? If mine's bigger than it might make you feel better.....wait that didn't sound right....

My scratches are mostly gone. She just got a nice spa treatment complimented with 3 coats of wax. And she's safely tucked away in the garage

The only real solution is to make an access panel in the top of the plastic so we can take off the OEM screw for the door handle and use that to secure it.

The bolt in the factory door pull well HAS to be there. Otherwise the structural integrity of the entire door panel becomes significantly weakened. And there is a 6mm gap between the floor of our adapter and the door pull.

So we either have to come up with a replacement of a factory bolt that would have a receiving hole in it's head so that the SnapRest bolt can be affixed to it, OR we will replace the factory bolt with a longer one but in that case we have to put a metal tube between the bottom of the SnapRest and the bottom of the door pull well to eliminate the gap between them so that one bolt holds everything together.

We'll get there, just need more time for R&D. All our current customers will be able to replace their SnapRest's bottom lid with the revised version when we are done developing it. I will honestly and up front have to admit that this will take at least 2-3 months. The solution with the 3M tape is so good, whether you believe it or not, that the bolt is not the #1 priority. But we will do it eventually.

Hi guys

Here's the SnapRest in the form it will be produced in going forward, ie. as of today. We have added padding on the inside to make it sit flush with the door. Due to the angle between the door panel and the door armrest (which is slightly obtuse) there still is a minimal gap on the top but the entire bottom and center part of the SnapRest actually touch the door.

I do hope that this will help us all put this issue to rest. Please keep in mind that there are different types of the door panel and some are thicker than others, so on some cars you will actually have no gap at all. We have to make a product that will accommodate all versions of the door panel out there... So we couldn't give it even more padding and feel safe about it.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to contact me in case of further questions. I’m here to help!

Have a great day,
Maciek

Okay guys, I've been posting on the f150forum.com as this product is getting more heated over there. To make a long story short, I have lost hope and will give away this product to anyone here that wants it. I will even cover shipping (CONUS) so you can have it. All I ask is if you don't like it, don't complain to me.
