Guys,
We really are working very hard to figure out a good solution for this issue. Our key problem is that we don't have access to a car in which this problem would manifest itself. With the several vehicles we tried, the fit is snug and there are no issues with pulling. We are asking all customers who have this problem to please share your experience: was this a problem from the beginning? Has it gotten worse over time? There are a lot of questions we'd like to ask you in order to try to get closer to understanding this issue fully. Please message us with your telephone number if you’d be so kind, we’d like to give you a call to discuss your issues via telephone.
Why some people have issues and majority does not:
We are investigating differences between the construction of the factory door pull between different year models and trim levels. There might be a range of door pulls that were made with higher tolerance than others. That's why the
SnapRest is looser on some cars versus others.
We also believe that the factory plastic, while thick, is not enforced in any way so the
SnapRest might actually be stretching it, by the sheer fact of being pushed into the door pull, and that causes the performance of the
SnapRest to degrade over time.
What can you do if your SnapRest pulls out while closing door
- Make sure both the SnapRest and the door pull well are cleaned and de-greased. SnapRest relies on friction. Any thin layer of film on the factory door pull resultant from its use over time will degrade that friction.
- Make sure the SnapRest is fully installed. Give it a bang with your fist. Make sure that the entire base of the SnapRest rests firmly against the door armrest.
Should the above fail to suffice, please consider using the
3M High Performance Protective Film PU8592E that greatly improves
SnapRest's grip in two ways:
- it adds 0.2mm of thickness to each side-wall of SnapRest adapter which is just enough to make it sit firmly in the door pull recess even though the recess itself gets a bit worn thus wider from normal everyday driving
- due to the technical specs (high mechanical resistance, resistance to fluids, pressure, abrasion and friction) and it's a bit rubber-like composition it provides additional grip by compressing between the walls of SnapRest adapter and the walls of door pull void and filling the tiny space that appears normally between two surfaces rubbing against one another.
So, what you need to do to make the
SnapRest sit firmly and remain fully functional for a long time is to add a strip of this
PU8592E tape to the side walls of the
SnapRest adapter in its upper part. Depending on how loose the
SnapRest seems, on strip on just one side might be enough, if not - just add the tape to the other side.
While adding this tape provides additional width and significantly better grip to the
SnapRest adapter, you will most probably need to apply much more force to install the
SnapRest in your truck - ie push it down into the door pull recess really hart until it sits firmly and flush with the surface of factory door armrest.
Don't worry about breaking it. We will send you a new one for free if that happens.
So definitely start with one strip, and only add it on the second side if necessary.
We will send the 3M tape to anybody who requests it, just message or email us and we'll send you the necessary piece for free.
In fact we will include the 3M tape and necessary instructions with all SnapRest s going forward.
Another modification we are doing is that future
SnapRest s will have a much more coarse texture on the adapter, which should also help provide the necessary grip to make our product stay in place the way we intended it in the design phase.
We most sincerely apologize to all those who had issues with the
SnapRest disengaging unexpectedly. We didn't take into account how significant the differences between the particular batches of the door pull well between year models, trim levels, etc. could be.
Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to contact me in case of further questions. I’m here to help!
Have a great day,
Maciek
