The radios are 5w which is pretty good for a low cost handheld. they can work up to 2 miles from my expeience but lots of things like hills and trees effect the signal.

I pm'd him. Thank you guys. Wife handles facebook. Dont need the drama. One question I have about the events, are they kid friendly? Have two 5 year olds.

Very kid friendly. As long as they don't mind spending a whole day in the truck on the trails. I mean we get out and stretch out legs periodically but from about 9am-4 or so well be going on the trails. Friday and Sunday at the dunes they'll have as much time as you want out side of the truck depending on where you park. And everyone is respectful and kind.
