Doesn't the in-channel shades not seal very well.
Isn't it the glass against the plastic?
Or is there some kind of seal built in?

Sorry, by 'seal', I meant 'watertight'. When a deflector fits inside the window opening, then water sheds over it. Just like shingles on your roof, they run on the overlap concept. Stick on ones only rely on the tape for a seal, and the tape is usually cut into pieces to fit the contour of the window.

Yup - the glass is against the plastic when closed. It's still as air tight as stock was, because of the pressure on the inner window trim.

They use the same two sided 3M tape, but it sticks to the inside of the outer window trim.

That was the exact reason I took my weathertech's off. Mine didn't seal very well and they creeked and squeaked all the time. Plus, my window was not going all the way up into the channel either.

I really want some, but I don't want to stick them on.

Another issue I read of with the in-channels is they will trigger the safety feature on the auto-up windows on the 2011's

I've had no issues with the stick on ventshades except for the wind noise.

Thanks for the pics JP7, See I have tint and I'm also curious if that will scratch the tint? 2 hard surface objects constantly rubbing against each other doesn't seem like it would last with out scratching. Also what is the main reason for these vents, is it just because of water dripping inside the vehicle? Or is it also just to deflect air away from the inside of the vehicle?

Your tint is on the inside so it wont scratch that because the outside of the glass is what comes in contact with it and Ive read ppl saying it will scratch the glass.

The main purpose is so you can crack your window for ventilation while its raining. they actually disturb the airflow around the truck so its a bit louder but its well worth it, IMO.

So it's just a straight flat edge that goes into the window channel and not cupped edge on the vent shades. For some reason I was under the impression that it was a cupped edge that went into the window track. So it just stays in there with a sticky side then, is that right?

I had to bevel the edge a little with my dremel, but then it would hit it and guide into the channel without tripping the safety down feature.

Nice tip, for all you lucky bastards with the auto up feature.
