Should I keep my Raptor?

I’ll make this short. 2019 Raptor almost completely stock. It’s had the computers freak out on two occasions leaving me stranded and has had 5 other less major issues. It’s been in the shop for about 3 weeks (and counting) in the first 9 months of ownership.

My state laws let me force Ford to buy it back for what I paid. Do you think I should do this?

I know that once my b2b warranty expires, each computer glitch will be very expensive to diagnose and repair. I love it when it works but I’ve never had such an unreliable vehicle before. What do I do?? There are basically no Raptor alternatives.

Thanks in advanced for the advice!

I would force the buy back and try again with a new Raptor. They definitely aren't all bad and your state laws clearly protect you.

If they can't figure it out , have them buy it back and just get another one. They're not all like that and it shouldn't be your problem.

I'd guess it's a bad piece of electronics or wiring somewhere in that truck and they lack the technical ability to locate it. You could be doing them a favor...hopefully they send that truck back to the engineering team to take a closer look at it.

Being a tinfoil hat wearing computer programmer, I'd also try pulling the modem fuse. Friend's higher-end Hyundai had crazy computer problems on account of it having a "disagreement" with local cell tower near his house. It's fuse #10 in interior on a 2019, have to replace a Micro3 fuse with a Micro2 to disable it (and not disable its "buddy" fuse). Did it to mine day#1...dealing with internet security day-to-day for work makes me not want to have my pickup truck be on the net.

I'm on the same boat... I love the Raptor,.. but I can't believe how unreliable my Raptor is... maybe I have a bad luck with this one with all kind of issue.

Had a gen 1 gave it up with 60k something miles. AC line issue and moonroof broke that was it (moonroofs are still breaking and will never get one in a ford truck again)

I’ve been back on here a lot because I’m looking to get back into a raptor. I can’t tell you how many posts I’ve see that involves people having issues:

Cam phaser rattle, oil consumption (TSB 19-2232), plastic oil catch (now fixed) leaking valve cover, timing belt, air speed sensor, every little thing cause the truck to go into limp mode, crank case sensor and several other minor issues I can’t recall. Just scroll through the threads here and you will see what I’m talking about. You could argue that because it’s a forum you will read about more issues because after all this is where you go to figure things out. With this being said I would go to a few raptor meet ups and or just try to flag guys down when you see them driving and see if they have had any issues.

I’m sorry but if things don’t turn around I’ll be getting a new SUV/Sedan and then a bone stock truck (not sure what brand) for when I need a pickup.

Like you I can’t see myself owning a pickup if it’s not a raptor, it’s such an amazing vehicle and fun to drive. With no other alternatives (maybe the TRX depending on how it turns out) we are all stuck having to roll the dice on the raptor.

Do your homework and take some time to think things through before making a decision. I’d be tempted to have them buy it back and get a new raptor even though at this point I think it would be the wrong decision.

Best of luck to you.

Take the money, then get a new one. You just had bad luck.

Mine and many others have been absolutely perfect without any issues. I'm over 40k miles.

I've got 42K on my early build 2017 and haven't had any issues. A couple of my friends have 2018s and haven't had any problems either. If it wasn't for the forums I wouldn't be aware of any Gen2s having issues.

I and a good friend both have early 2017 builds as well! Neither has had any issues at all.

Maybe this is the first time in automotive history that you SHOULD buy the first model year!
