I’ll make this short. 2019 Raptor almost completely stock. It’s had the computers freak out on two occasions leaving me stranded and has had 5 other less major issues. It’s been in the shop for about 3 weeks (and counting) in the first 9 months of ownership.

My state laws let me force Ford to buy it back for what I paid. Do you think I should do this?

This place is like twitter, it brings out the worst in people. You have a lot of users here who get in their trucks every day, commute, haul family, go to starbucks, do Raptor things and go home and nothing happens. Nobody posts about that.

Yours has not been the ideal, expected or tolerable customer experience. stranding you significantly reduced the use and market value of your vehicle, once is one time too many. These problems are horrible to troubleshoot and they’re being troubleshot by mechanics, not network experts. You could have a nicked wire somewhere buried in a harness, busted sensor, defective module, who knows? You’re right - get rid of it.

I would love it if Ford would produce a bare bones, no tech Raptor. Motor, transmission, transfer case, suspension and go. no ABS, not stability control, no drive modes, minimal integration, just a super competent off road truck. But those days are gone. Even so, the Raptor user base is pretty darn big. The user base who have reported significant issues are not big. The chances of you getting another one with significant issues is pretty small. Not zero, but small.

I’m sorry but if things don’t turn around I’ll be getting a new SUV/Sedan and then a bone stock truck (not sure what brand) for when I need a pickup.

I hope you pick up a new SUV or sedan soon!

I agree with everyone about trading it in and getting another one. Only difference being, get a gen 1 if you want reliability!

Let the games begin...

consider i have not set foot in the shop in 17 months of ownership.

being stranded multiple times, means something is wrong. If I dont have the confidence to jump in a car on a moments notice and drive cross country....i dont want the car.

Thanks for all the feedback! Many of my issues seem to be unrelated and just point to poor design and parts selection (e.g. servos failing, switches shorting our). I’m an engineer and always look for route cause but I believe the Raptor design makes this incredibly difficult.

To make things more complicated, I’ve been reading articles about Ford’s rising warranty costs and falling stock prices making many ask if they are far from going through a bankruptcy reorganization “vehicle-rollout problems and high warranty costs have taken a toll, with the company’s operating profit falling for three straight years" Probably making this WAY too complicated.

Being a tinfoil hat wearing computer programmer, I'd also try pulling the modem fuse. Friend's higher-end Hyundai had crazy computer problems on account of it having a "disagreement" with local cell tower near his house. It's fuse #10 in interior on a 2019, have to replace a Micro3 fuse with a Micro2 to disable it (and not disable its "buddy" fuse). Did it to mine day#1...dealing with internet security day-to-day for work makes me not want to have my pickup truck be on the net.

I wish I had known about this a long time ago. I have a sensitive job and can’t drive the truck at times due to the location tracking (just wait for a Ford data breach, I’m sure their security is TOP NOTCH!!). The ECU also rats you out if you change it which I believe the mechanics can see, though they likely don’t know what the change is.

Maybe the thing to do is have them buy it back and order a base Raptor and spend the rest of my life arguing with my girlfriend about it being too cold for her. No sunroof, adaptive cruise control or anything!

It does record a code, but no check-engine light or other indication anything is amiss. I was able to see it in Forscan. It's not in PCM or anything critical though obviously, and the infotainment UI is completely happy without it, only displays an error if you tap on FordPass icon or "modem info".

If you don't want another Raptor do the buy back and get cashed out as soon as possible. But if you want another Raptor do the buy back what's substitution of liability

I know that once my b2b warranty expires, each computer glitch will be very expensive to diagnose and repair. I love it when it works but I’ve never had such an unreliable vehicle before. What do I do?? There are basically no Raptor alternatives.

Thanks in advanced for the advice!

I initially had severe sync glitches in my Gen 1 which took numerous trips to the dealer. I was also dealing with Ford in Detroit and the regional representative as well. Ultimately Ford sent an engineer out and they replaced the processing units, APIM or something or another and I think another one, and were able to get it work. Until they did that, I was headed towards having them buy it back. The truck was fine after it was fixed. If the computer goes screwy on your dime, you know that is going to be expensive. Unless they can convincingly fix it, you should push hard for buy back. I'm on a 2019 Gen 2 now with no issues.
