Should I keep my Raptor?

Why can’t ford just start with an 8 in the raptor?! emoji30.png

Be careful what you wish for. If Ford did put a V8 in the Raptor, how would you spend your free time. Then you would have to slap on some sunscreen when you come out of mom's basement. Skin cancer is no joking matter.

Until then, I guess we can be thankful for one less case of coronavirus on the forum.

Here we go, say anything negative about this truck and folks start with the personal attacks.

Sure, mom’s basement good one!

V8 or 8 lug? The Raptor is still a half ton by class, which means it isn't exempt from fuel economy ratings. Even though Raptors are relatively low volume, the fuel economy is still significant to Ford's CAFE average. Jeep/Ram can get away with a lot of low fuel economy vehicles since their Fiat products counter the difference.

TFL trucks just unofficially confirmed that the TRX will have the full 707 horsepower Hellcat motor. The truck will have dual Bilsteins and a 5 link rear end. The late stage development mules have been spotted wearing 8 lug wheels in the rear, implying that they are using 2500 level rear ends (for strength). If they have also sufficiently upgraded the front driveline, that truck will be a beast. So there may finally be real competition coming.

In the meantime, though, I would not hesitate to buy another Raptor. Dodge has been floating rumors about the TRX for the better part of a decade now. I do think it's coming but I wouldn't personally wait for it. For the price it is likely to command ($100k+), you could do a Whipple 5.0 swap in a Gen 2 and then smoke the TRX...

The engine and trans swap only costs around $27k, plus you can sell the stock units.

Also, Dodge quality sucks.

Looks like the TRX will be the first real competition for the Raptor. The specs sound very impressive, especially with the 6.2 700HP engine. Ram has really stepped up the game with their new interiors; they're actually best in class. Only long term results will tell how well everything holds up.

In regard to the chassis, I'd be surprised if the TRX was offered as a 2500 (8 lug). The 2500 is significantly heavier than the 1500; even a base model 2500 is close to 6500lbs with the standard 6.4 N/A gas engine. Weight is not favorable in a baja style truck that is equipped to get airborne. I suspect that they may be testing some components on a 2500 (Power Wagon) chassis that will be implemented in the 1500 TRX. We shall see.

Would all that electric stuff Ford is coming out with help?

I’ve been on here since 2013 and I just don’t remember seeing these many issues in the gen 1.

You seem to be very knowledgeable, what say you about the reliability of the ecoboost and the gen 2 in general?

Just got my Raptor back today.

FORD PUT ALMOST 400 MILES ON IT!!

The service manager said, well I have an 80 mile commute, what do you want me to do??

Adding insult to injury, they only looked at one of the four issues it was there for.
