You did make sense. My first 2 (and only 2 prior to the Raptor) were stick and I enjoyed the hell out of them. You're right nascar is still a manual transmission as far as I know but I'm still convinced that the semi auto in formula 1 and super car classes for example is the way of the future. I agree with you that the manual and the paddle shifters are good as long as the response time decreases. I just have a large hesitation with using luxury, lazy, and automatic together as I dont believe that "lazy" should be linked with the other 2.

Again, this is just 2 guys discussing opinions and everyone is entitled to their own and I am not trying to **** anyone off.

Besides the novelty (and the ability to spend even more money on your Raptors) why would you really want this? :emotions133:

Why? Why not? Why ask why? Why not ask what for? Why not ask WTF?

Because they can and because people will pay.

Especially if they don't need it.

And the ones that will buy it probably have never shifted their auto trans once except into D and P.

What is btw the shift apeed on the raptor ??
And is there anyway to increase
A good stick ahifter can change gears in ~250miliseconds

But the most advanced semi auto's / fullauto's do it at like 50ms

I know a manual can accelerate faster then an auto but that is down to the gearing an driver

I agree this mod isn't going to be for everyone, but i almost completely disagree with it being for race only trucks. I would think in a race truck you wouldn't want to be trying to operate a clutch and a manual shifter hitting rough bits of terrain constantly. I'd want paddle shifters or a full auto for that. Or even a sequential no clutch trans like in Nelson Racing's mad maxx truck. This is for people who just prefer manual. I can see why Ford didn't mess with it, because it is limited market, but for somebody who thinks their Raptor really is a sporty truck, banging your own gears can enhance that feeling and be twice as much fun in the same vehicle. Go drive an auto Camaro SS and a manual version. The auto may be slightly faster and might even be rated for better mileage. But since it's a street car, not a full on race car, the fractions of a second you can get to 60 or run the 1/4 mile aren't crucial, but rowing gears through the countryside with a V8 is just plain fun. At the expense of some speed, I'd prefer a manual in almost anything sporty to drive. I know i'm not the only one. And i don't think the cost to do this will be hard at all. I'm not sure how Ford does the shift controls on the Raptor, but if it has a TCM seperate of the ECM, you just don't hook it up, and write a tune telling your ECM to ignore any trans faults a lack of a module could throw. Other than that, it's just dropping in a factory ford trans, and fabricating a clutch pedal mount

I agree wholeheartedly. I won't do this as the Raptor is my daily driver and living in Houston, I sit in traffic everyday for a minimum of 30 minutes. But if I had a 2nd vehicle that was sporty, it'd definitely be a manual.

Ok, so I take back my comment about race trucks because of the comment above. I agree rolling through the gears yourself is fun. So I guess I would say there is no perfect solution and whatever works for you, well...works for you. I have no clue what the shift speed is, but I do know many members have complained at how long it takes from the time you click "+" or "-" to the point at which the gears actually change. I agree with them, the manual option is slow. But that probably has to do with how fast everything "talks" to one another and the money Ford was willing to sink into these components to make them economical and not touchy (as I imagine race car components are). I'm not sure I agree, however that a manual can accelerate faster than an auto. A Raptor with a manual, and a Raptor with and auto that stayed in the same gears as the manual through the entire acceleration would be nominally equal (assuming shift times were equal).

btw for everyone interested, heres SDHQ's thread on the topic.

I had a 08 dodge power wagon with a 6 speed stick and it was pretty cool to drive. Depending on cost and resale value on the stock trans I'd be down. Manuals are more fun to drive in my opinion.

I wouldn't sell the stock trans, I'd want to keep it around and have it all set to reinstall when the time comes to sell the truck. I figure I'd have to sell the manual trans and kit to another FRF member.
