Top Speed on Raptor R

The problem is not the tire "blowing up". The problem is not needing a perfect stretch of road. The problem is that the tires become unstable. At about 120 my Gen 1 with 2024 KO2 take-offs started to shake and wobble. I took it to my tire guy and had them check the balance, it was good. He explained to me that these big tires are not built perfect, evident by the balancing process, and that they can literally start to go out of round at high RPMs. You might get lucky and have a better than average set of tires, or maybe over inflating them will help? They have a speed rating for a reason, and if they were safe at higher speeds, the rating would be higher. The trucks handle well at 113 and don't require any special road to go that fast.

Its "safe" to say that 120 is kinda the soft limit regardless of the version. My impression was it had a lot to do with tire heat and sustained speed. I doubt even a pilot sport cup 2R is built perfect either, otherwise you wouldn't still need balancing.

2023 & 2024 are electronically limited to 113mph due to the tires. According to the Ford & BFG engineers, this is determined by the worst case scenario of max tire loading at sustained speeds. Interestingly, they said that tires make more heat on pavement than they do off-road, so technically a tires "safe" top speed is actually higher off-road than it is on the street.

Why would you want to? Going that speed plus I wouldn't recommend. For alot of safety reasons on the tires, high side walls just for one. These off road tires stretch at high speeds causing death wobble.

Short burst to 120-125MPH. Not looking to run super high speeds for extended periods. For what it's worth, BFG KR3 (non DOT) is R speed rated (to 106MPH). Toyo MT-R (non DOT) is speed rated to N (87MPH). Those tires are run at 120MPH+ for long stretches with no issues on Trophy Trucks. Sure, different compounds, etc., but doing brief runs up to 125MPH on the road with the factory BFG or other good quality aftermarket tire isn't going to cause catastrohic failure. I would assume most reasonable people would back off the throttle if they felt poor handling characteristics at high speeds.

Ive posted it here before with the GPS visible, but my 2018 will easily pull 140mph. Yes, the K02 tires don't like it as they're too flexi/soft, but unless they're physically compromised they wont “blow up” or otherwise fail unless run above their speed rating for a “while”. I wouldn't want brake/turn as in racing at those speeds on them, but I’m not an inexperienced noob at high speed driving, so it’s no big deal to me. My bikes, all 5 of them, exceed 100 mph often. One of them will run 180+ easily while the others are geared lower with slightly less power and they top out at 170-180. The truck and my other 4-wheeled vehicles top out less often, but occasionally.

You reminded me of the couple of times when I was curious what the top end of my Honda XR650-R was with my normal off-road gearing and knobby tires. 102 felt like 202! It was like there were real small marbles underneath me instead of a concrete highway.

I hit a 120 limiter today...blazed right past 113 in my completely stock 2023 35. Confirmed by Waze in a Houston HOV lane lol...Sure surprised me, couldn't do that in my gen 2 before the tune.

Ill do it again for the "pics or it didn't happen guys" ...lol
