I'm interested in installing a set of Icon 3.0's on my '14 scab. I'm torn between a rebuild and revalve on the stock 2.5's, or new shocks all around. I have been reading up on a lot of forums, but I still have some unanswered questions about the 3.0's. My goal is to have a extremely comfortable ride on and off road when chasing bikes in Baja. I am not interested in bombing whoops, taking jumps and thrashing the truck, but it doesn't hurt to know that I can get to a downed rider in a hurry if need be. Think less prerunning, and more overloading without spilling my cocktail.
The following are the unanswered questions.
Will adjusting the compression on the rear bypasses affectively reduce squat when carrying heavy loads? +-1,000lb
How noticeable is the 19% increase in spring rate over the stock shocks? As above, I'm looking for a very compliant ride over corrugated roads and baby head rocks. To me, it would seem a stiffer spring rate would be counter intuitive for what I'm looking for, however the test at the below link may have been conducted with the shocks ride height adjusted way up.
(see link for the test http://www.fordraptorforum.com/f9/f...0-vs-icon-3-0-vs-king-3-0-dyno-results-23405/ )
Rebuild life? I know rebuild schedule is subject to driving conditions, but I have heard of guys going 40k before rebuilds. Is a 25 -30k mile rebuild life realistic or is it significantly less?
Check valve noise? Icon is supposed to have a dampened check valve (or whatever they call it) that reduces the audible clicking you hear in the fox and king 3.0's. Is this true? Again, the goal is a plush and quiet ride.
Finally, who has the best price on Icon's? Ive checked the obvious vendors, looks like $4,900 is the going rate.
As always, if these questions are answered in another forum or thread, please just reply with the link.
Thanks,
SW
