Do you have speaker engine sound still on? Might be able to narrow it done if you turned it off. I prefer it off.

I have yet to get into forscan because it seems overwhelming.... is that the only way to turn it off? Do the 2019’s still have that?

Question ... if you were 2 quarts low, wouldn’t that cause a warning light? In other words how many quarts do you have to be low on until the check oil light comes on?

These engines don’t have an oil level sensor; only an oil pressure sensor. When the oil level becomes low enough to affect engine operation, the symptom is often a check engine light with DTCs for camshaft timing. This is due to the a lack of full oil flow to the VCT phasers. Even with the oil level low enough to cause this symptom, there is typically no damage to the engine.

That’s exactly what I thought. When I talked to the service advisor he said not worry about it, these engines are bulletproof. I’ve been a gear head my whole life (not professionally) and know what happens when oil pressure isn’t ideal.

When I first heard the noise immediately looked at my oil pressure gauge and I was well within normal. I took a mental note where it was before and after adding oil and it literally moved a hair or two. Chances are nothing is wrong but it’s still got me a little paranoid. It could just be the V6 gurgle like the 3.1 GM engines in the beretta’s in the 90’s which is why I was posting a video.

Do you guys have that gurgle, rumble, audible sound? It’s hard to explain what I mean but it’s almost like a Subaru boxer engine sound but not nearly as pronounced.

I cannot hear any abnormal noise in your video; perhaps it’s difficult to capture via a recording. Can you hear the noise in your video?

Oil level is not correlated to oil pressure unless the sump runs dry, which results in a reading of zero. So being 2 quarts low will not change your oil pressure reading. Remember, these engines use a 2 stage variable displacement oil pump; the PCM will vary oil pump mode based on engine temperature, RPM, and load.

Thank you for all of the knowledge and it all makes perfect sense. I can hear it in the video but barely and it’s only because I know what I’m listening for.

Question - being 2 quarts low what would be a likely issue as a result? I’m assuming something on the top end but that is old school thinking I guess.

Generally, nothing. As long as the sump never went dry (which would cause 0 oil pressure, noise, and a low oil pressure warning message) the top end should have been receiving sufficient lubrication. Issues caused by low oil level generally arise during aggressive acceleration, high engine RPM, hard cornering, or aggressive braking. This is because the oil demand is greater (higher pressure & flow) under heavy engine load and aggressive maneuvers cause the oil to slosh away from the oil pickup, starving the pump and creating aeration. Being only 2 quarts low and not having another other warnings or symptoms, I don’t think you have anything to worry about.

I guess having a sump prevents a whole lot of issues that could arise from low oil. So the way it works is the oil pump just keeps the sump full no matter the condition but changes based on demand?

I’m wondering if someone could possibly post a similar video so I could see if I hear it on that?

Could it be the wastegate rattle? You were never really on boost during those videos. So maybe the gates are giving you a little rattle.

That could be the case but it doesn't really sound much like the rattle the wastegate produces, it's more of a "gurgle" or "knock"
