Review: Alcon Brakes for Gen 2

Ok I did R1 Concept Drilled and slotted rotors with their high performance pads and braided brake lines at the same time. Been really happy with the results but after watching the video and the little voice in the back of my head telling me to get the Alcon’s I’m going to! I will say my brake upgrade made a big difference in how the brakes felt but I think a large part of that was the braided brake lines giving a better pedal feel. So here goes the Alcon’s!

Would seem it would be closer to 2k I would think. Or am I mistaken?

1k for the calipers
500 for the brackets
500 for the tie rods

so what is the stopping distance difference?

27% reduction in stocking distance on our truck. 105ft from 60-0mph was our best recorded distance.

You are correct. Plus stainless lines if you don't already have them, and brake fluid. As well as a few beers for the install.

Nil. Been there done that. Nothing you can do with the OEM 2 piston floating calipers vs 6 piston fixed mounted calipers.

But … wouldn’t something be an improvement with improved pads? (And rotors) and if so, what have guys used

On eBay : but not that link to the Alcon kit. $3300. Not saying it’s not worth it, I ran Alcons on my Audi back in the day… but that’s still alot it coin. Factor in $700 for the rear pads/rotors and install.

There is definitely a big difference. At the same time, it ain't cheap modifying an already expensive truck.

Again like with most modifications to any vehicle, it comes down to the intended purpose. Just running around town or to look cool in the Starbucks parking lot, not really worth it. I would go with a simple pad and rotor upgrade.

But if you plan on using the truck for the intended purpose that Ford built the truck for, I would upgrade the brake calipers both front and rear. Brakes are not a sexy upgrade but you will really want them while doing 100+ mph down a logging road as you come across a deer standing in the middle.

true true. I remember all those times I did 100+ on a logging road.
Maybe don't drive like a ****** to begin with should be the big take away on all this.

Could that 3k upgrade come in handy, sure it could.
