I got a hair up my ass the other day and unbolted my exhaust just to see how it sounds.

It sounds awesome!

I left the entire thing still hanging in case I change my mind, but for the past few days it's been fun. I drive about 40 miles to work one way with a mix of "stop and go" and highway. It drones, but it's not bad enough to where I had to turn the radio up, or to where I can't talk on the phone.

I'm going to re-connect it later today for our road trip coming up this weekend. I don't think me and/or the wife will enjoy 5 hrs of drone at highway speeds.

A cut-out won't last too long in this climate with the amount of salt that gets spread on the roads in the winter, so that's not an option for me. But I am definitely looking for a new exhaust set up now!

Did you unbolt before or after the resonator?

Hey Carl, I hear there are some really good exhaust shops in Gary, Indiana next time you are cruising by stop in and tell them Chad sent you, lol.

Up-stream from the resonator. Right where the two bolts are.

You coould just add the "Y" pipe and manually cap/uncap when you want. There's one guy on here that does that, I think he calls it the "manual doug's cutout". I did that for a while when my Doug's crapped out...it's only 3 bolts. But, I do agree, 5 hours on the highway with loud exhaust gets old!

straight pipe on a street vehicle = ridiculous

It's not exactly "straight pipe"...there are 2 mufflers up stream of the resonator and stock muffler...they are called "catalytic converters". They do attenuate the sound quite a bit, it's not like the old-old days where a straight pipe exhaust was screaming loud. I have removed the cat-cons off of my mustangs and used an "off road" exhaust, now that gets loud.

@JuggNuttz ...do you have an electric cutout that you control from a switch or do you have just the manual cutout that you unscrew the 3 screws?

@JuggNuttz Wow! So it has lasted 3 years for you? Everything Ive been reading is that they don't last more than 6 months of your lucky. Do you off-road much? Sounds like people say that the dust and mud and rattling ruins them pretty quick...what say you?

i dont offroad alot, being in the city, but 3 years and going thru a Snoball 500 and Havoc in the Hills, it hasnt missed a beat. maybe if you beat on it off road couple times a week, it will kill it fast, but for my normal driving, having fun once and a while when i head to family farms and the couple runs ive been on, its holding up perfectly fine for me.
