There is also the option of removing the factory resonator and muffler and replacing them with a longer resonator. Resonators are usually cheaper than mufflers, and you may get the sound you want.

But consider your neighbors, please. And you do not want everyone in a 1/4 mile radius to hear you when you start your truck at 1AM to run down to the pharmacy for condoms.

I 1 up the comment for no muffler but retain the stock resonator. Or even possibly an aftermarket resonator? I'm with madcow on the cut-out. Ive had mine 2 years or so and run it open in town. But when I get on the highway with my parents, the drone can give them a headache.

Im running the wireless switch for it as well. It comes in a nice finish with the quick time performance logo. Looks very good on your keychain. It works from ehhh i'd say 50 feet or so. It's great to remote start the truck with my viper 5904 then freak people out by opening and closing the valve a few times. Best "WTF" looks ever... And it's loud as thunder. Has a great rumble and at WOT it is mean. It pops and crackles on the overrun and rev limiter will shake the ground.

Great set-up but i'm looking for the benefits of a full exhaust. And actually your flow numbers will not get better by going to a cut-out. Better flow is achieved through mandrel bent tubing and high flow headers. Cut-outs are strictly for cheap, unbridled, fury!

i love my cut out with Roush catback.... resonator deleted. when around the neighborhood, i run cut out open with off-road mode on. some people have said there is drone with the Roush.... i do not agree at all... i even turned off my radio and went thru many RPM bands.... no drone what so ever... its aggressive, but NOT drone.... so i personally recommend deleting the resonator, adding a cut out and doing a muffler swap.

If you do a cutout then all parts south of the cutout become cosmetic. No need having the metal there if it's just being bypassed.

yes and no..... when im tooling around town, i have the cut out open. when im on the interstate i have it closed. i LOVE my open cut out and Off-Road Mode.... but longer trips i do it closed and listen to the Roush sing.

also, technically, cut out are illegal ON road..... being able to close one electronically may come in handy.

just sayin

LOL! I just researched the motor vehicle laws in FL and found this...

316.293 Motor vehicle noise.—
(5) NOISE ABATEMENT EQUIPMENT MODIFICATIONS.—
(a) No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle or any other noise-abatement device of a motor vehicle operated or to be operated upon the highways of this state in such a manner that the noise emitted by the motor vehicle is above that emitted by the vehicle as originally manufactured.

So...legally, we can't change out our exhaust if it increases the noise level above OE.

Good thing I'm using a cut-out with the stock exhaust.

But, I've lived in FL on and off since '83 and have never been pulled over for loud exhaust, and all of my vehicles have had modified exhaust.

I put a cutout in. Even with it open you still get exhaust flow through the stock muffler. Its quiet. My cutout sheared in ocotillo, not the stock exhaust. Now i have a turn down right after the hangar at the cat. Still not that loud compared to some vehicles. If you do any type of real offloading you will break an exhaust. Seen stock, stainless works and others all break. I vote turndown at cat

I got a hair up my ass the other day and unbolted my exhaust just to see how it sounds.

It sounds awesome!

I left the entire thing still hanging in case I change my mind, but for the past few days it's been fun. I drive about 40 miles to work one way with a mix of "stop and go" and highway. It drones, but it's not bad enough to where I had to turn the radio up, or to where I can't talk on the phone.

I'm going to re-connect it later today for our road trip coming up this weekend. I don't think me and/or the wife will enjoy 5 hrs of drone at highway speeds.

A cut-out won't last too long in this climate with the amount of salt that gets spread on the roads in the winter, so that's not an option for me. But I am definitely looking for a new exhaust set up now!
