I'll ask again. Anyone know anything about Red Head Steering Gears? Their web site sounds like they rebuild the way we need.

I took my skids off and the knock was not there. Visual inspection, no leaking, no noise, no play. Put the skids back on and tightened everything up. Noise gone. Maybe I was lucky, but it's worth a try....

I replaced my rack last night. Took apart the bad one and the yoke adjustment was cracked into pieces. This was letting the gear mesh get loose and cause all the play and clunking

No its really straight forward,

Be advised, the torque spec for the two mounting bolts is 375 ft/lbs. A 1100 ft/lb impact gun could not remove them. I had to heat up the bolts to get them loose.

Pull the skids, pull the tie rods, 2 bolts hold the rack in, and 1 bolt for the steering wheel linkage and one for the fluid lines.

I just replaced one about 2 weeks ago. However, the brand new one from ford has so much slop / play in it, I'm wondering what the deal is.

It is new, not reman. Just haven't had time to go in.
