Replace OEM sub with kicker?

Is it worth / possible to replace the factory sub with an 8 inch kicker comp sub. I see it is possible to utilize factory box and connections.

If you have a 2017, you can inexpensively wire in speaker level inputs, an amp, pull the enclosure, remove the factory sub and fit the kicker shallow 8” in there. It takes some work with a heat gun or torch to form the box a little - maybe 3/8” or so.

Worth it is relative. If you are on a budget, this is feasible but you’ll have to redo it if you decide it’s not enough.

If you have the B&O system, it’s not that simple and I understand from others that the B&O has even more bass roll off than the previous models’ sony system.

ita all relative to what you want. upgrading the sub using the oem box is a medocre upgrade. it will give you a little more, but not much. may be enough for you. i would recommend an active hi/low converter with your setup

Let me try to explain it a different way. When you try to make a Prius a race car it will take a lot of doing to get some kind of result. If you first started with a Corvette it would be much easier with much less effort to get the race car effect. So bringing it into audio terms if you start with the stock system and try to modify it still using the stock equipment then you'll have a lot of difficultly getting anything near decent results. If you instead start off with a better foundation (ie not using stock sub enclosure) and use not so expensive parts you'll get better results due to the foundation being better. I hope this makes sense.

if you are willing to give up floor space, there are much better options available. you arent limited to the oem box and 8" subwoofer

I was originally interested in a single MTI 10” enclosure. Unfortunately you have to cut out the backing on rear of the cab and it looked to be an extremely tight fight. Can you still utilize the factory jack location? It was also mentioned by @dhmcfadin that your woofer will be literally pinned up behind the seat, which is not optimal.

I really wanted to utilize an enclosure like this which worked behind the seat. I stayed away due to these issues and was looking at a single under the rear seat 10, once I abandon the dreaded factory enclosure. If you can speak differently about it, I’d certainly listen.
