I have Stainless Works Headers with the side exit (in front of passenger tire). I developed an exhaust leak on one of the cats so am going to take it all apart and put new bands and stuff on it.

Here is my issue: The drone is aweful. I don't even like driving it unless I am offroad.

Question: Has anyone else with the Stainless headers (and performance connect) that has modified the muffler or something to fix the drone?

As far as I see it I have multiple options:
- Just fix the leak, put it all back together and suck it up.
- Replace the cat back portion with the stainless works dual exhaust or BEHIND the pasanger tire exit and hope that is better.
- Find a new muffler that would be a direct (or close) replacement for the stainless works one.

Anyone that has had this "issue" or anyone with an opinion welcome to chime in..

I don’t have the exact Stainless Works set up as you but I do have SW Downpipes and a full SW rear exit exhaust. Maybe this can help, maybe not? I hope somehow it can bc there’s nothing like putting your money into a bad ass truck anticipating great results and ending up frustrated and let down. I get it.

I have been to war and back with the exhaust on my Gen 2. In fact I got so damn frustrated that I ended up teaching myself how to weld, mig, tig, and stick!! lol just so I could fix and fabricate as needed.

I originally replaced my stock exhaust with a Roush 3 inch stainless cat back. The sound was much louder than stock and I really didn’t have any drone. It sounded good. So I left it that way for a year and then just got the itch for something different…… enter the stainless works system. I listen to their videos online and thought wow I already have upgraded turbos and stainless downpipe so I’m just gonna add the stainless works cat back exhaust because it sounds great on their video.

Once I installed it, I was highly disappointed. Don’t get me wrong. The pipes are beautiful, but the sound was almost nonexistent, and I had a lot of drone compared to the Roush system. In the end and to save you from a longer message than this already is, I ended up keeping the stainless works piping, but put my original Roush mufflers back into the system and I don’t have any drone and my truck sounds great to me. It took a lot of time hours and hours to finally get it right, but at least I was able to do the work myself. Just to note…… I also installed two Borla the mufflers before eventually switching back to the Roush mufflers I have now. The reason is as with the stainless works muffler the boiler mufflers lacked on sound, and in my opinion, the Roush have sounded better than anything else.

I hope this somewhat helps. I’ll try to attach a file of what my truck sounds like now. Good luck.
