How many Miles on your Ride?

28000 miles.

---------- Post added at 08:59 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:56 AM ----------

On my truck it was the tail gate mount and latch points. Light greese and they are good for month.

Ive driven around with the tailgate down to trouble shoot that and its still there. So I can count that out right? Maybe the tailgate step...but I doubt that.

it's either the leaf spring contact pads - which you just need to slather grease on.

or

your tailgate step.

just jump up and down in your bed and you'll know where it's coming from.

I just did the bed jump test. No squeak. That mean it's the step ?

Does it just need grease somewhere ?

Thanks Birdman.

Are you f-ing kidding me!

My truck is like a little kid. They complain about something hurting and when you say your taking them to the doc they stop complaining and magically feel better! My truck has had this damn squeak for months and when I took her into the dealer this morning the squeak stops on the drive over.

Haha mixed emotions.

Anyway I hope it stays away. Not sure how that's possible that it just disappeared but whatever, I'm not complaining.

I think that one is called murphy's law.

I just went out and greased the only point I found rubbing on the tailgate step, which was the anchor point where the hook that holds the step in grabs. Went for a test drive, and sqeuak is still there. I'm leaning towards it being the leaf spring isolators that Birdman mentioned.

I've got grease, but there is not much space (less than a 1/8") between the leaves and the isolator. So I think I have to figure out a way to jack up the back end and see if I can get more space to work with to get that pad greased.

I took mine for a couple days of mudding in Mississippi and the leafs squeeked for a month after that...I attributed it to all the dried red dirt in the leafs. About the time it stopped was when I found the thread on FRF about greasing the leafs.

It looks like there are 4 "pads"/insulators on each spring. One at each end of bottom leaf, and one next to each of the two clips that look like they hold the leafs together.

Which pads/insulators are you guys greasing ?

Thanks.

To be on the safe side, grease all the spring pads and the leaf spring eyelet bushings at the the spring hanger(front) and the the shackle(rear) of both spring packs.

I would recommend to use something that will not trap as much dirt and rocks like a wax. You will still need to redo at some point but, a wax is good for not holding as much dirt or use a DuPont tefon
